Quick and Easy Crochet

Quick and Easy Crochet is another of the crochet needle work magazines I buy on a semi regular basis. While I do not subscribe to the magazine I can most generally find back issues during jumble shop forays, I do not often find the magazine for sale at any of our other local shops.

This digest sized magazine is designed for anyone who loves crocheting and anyone who wants to learn. Each issue contains a number of ideas, patterns and hints. Additionally, there are simple instructions and diagrams for patterns for fashions, afghans, home decor, children's items and toys.

I was about 9 when Mom introduced me to the lovely art of crochet. Despite my early crochet efforts, harnesses for lizards, I did go on to create a number of garments, afghans, baby outfits, booties for babies, and hats for my own children.

Covers for Quick and Easy Crochet issues always promise a nice assortment of patterns will be offered between the covers. I like the size of the book, it is a digest size rather than a huge pattern layout size making it easy to tuck into the bag along with a ball of thread and hooks for taking along on trips, waiting for a kid at the dentist and the like.

Quick and Easy Crochet Designs run the breadth of fashions, home décor, and more. Listed or pictured on the cover may be: a must make baby outfit, a summery beach cover up, a scarf or stole, sweaters, jackets and vests, as well as pillow covers and afghans.

I find the instructions patterns associated with pictures items found in Quick and Easy Crochet are accurate and easy to follow, most items are quite quick and easy to make. Resulting pieces look like the pictures, pot holders are square or round, not baggy and oval, sweaters fit and afghans are rectangles without one long and one short parallel side.

For those who need a little extra direction there is a stitch guide included in every magazine and directions for making a gauge swatch first.

The stitch guide details how to information for various common and some not so common stitches used for crocheting items from clothing to hats and things for the home.

A recent hoard of jumble shop acquisitions will provide enough pattern material to keep me happy and crochet hooks flying into my declining years with creative patterns for doilies, made only for county fair showing, afghans, clothing, dolls and soft toys all created from readily available threads and yarns. Meaning:  I can get the materials at the local Walmart or Hobby Lobby.

I tend to shy away from the patterns or books that require too expensive, one of a kind yarns or threads that are hard to find, hard to match colors and are sure to be gone when I find that I need just one more foot of the thread to complete the item and nothing else will do.

Vests, ponchos and hats are often offered. For baby there are an abundance of patterns for newborn christening outfits, little people sweaters, jumpers, pants and panties, and bonnets.

Quick and Easy Crochet is a trendy, smaller sized magazine bringing many old time as well as classic crochet patterns. Simplified instructions make crocheting simple. I like that Readers have the advantage of easy-to understand instructions as well as full color photos, I am an accomplished needle person, and can read directions, I still like to see the picture of the finished product as I work on a piece. One aunt, who is now deceased never learned to read directions, nevertheless filled her house and her closet with lovely items by simply looking at the pictures and crocheting away. Happy to recommend.

NOTE: Not every pattern will suit every needle worker, however Quick and Easy Crochet does provide a nice assortment every other month and even the most discerning needle worker should find patterns to enjoy creating.
