Author's Review
As a frequent ebay seller, I've found it costly to buy packaging materials each time i shipped something. I decided a paper shredder would help me out in this area, as well as alleviate the enormous amounts of "scrap paper" (computer paper that only has print on one side) laying around in my house. I decided that a paper shredder would be the best way to go.
I found the GBC Shredmaster 60S to be rated very well on epinions, so I decided to give it a try.
The GBC Shredmaster 60S is a Straight-Cut Shredder, meaning it only cuts in one direction, producing vertical cuts. This may be insufficient for those who shred their papers for privacy. For those people, a cross-cutting shredder which slices the paper in a few directions would be better. It adjusts to mount on top of trashcans 13-16 inches wide and 7 inches deep to accomodate the motor. The machine shreds paper up to 9 inches wide, producing quarter inch strips. The power cord was nice and long (6 feet!) allowing me freedom to place the trashcan w/ the mounted shredder.
There weren't that many options on this machine, although one can argue that there aren't many needed. There's a direction switch, which sends paper either forward or backward (for unjamming paper). An automatic on feature sets the shredder to kick into motion when it sense paper in the paper slot.
This shredder has worked great so far; It's quick, quiet, and can grind up to 8 sheets of paper at once. However, with higher loads, the shredding can get a bit slow. I try not to do too many sheets at once, so i don't wear out the machine. A nice feature of this shredder is that it can shred staples too, so you don't have to remove them before sticking the paper in.
There is no maintenence required, and I haven't had any problems in the 3 months that I've used this machine.
A nice long 5 year warranty on the blades allows you to replace them if they become faulty. There's also a 1 year warranty on the unit itself.
At $89, this unit is a bit pricey, but it does a great job~!!
