This one translates from the pc so well that I'd rather own it on the N64.
I've got the pc version, and I rented this one to compare, and I like this one better overall. The game looks and plays so well (except that I HATE the N64 standard controller) that for the trouble you're liable to come across while loading it for your pc, it's just a lot easier to have it for the N64, plug it in, and play it. With the pc version, you are succeptible to (depending on your pc of course) longer load times, smaller windows to promote smoother play, slowdowns, jumpiness, lack of control, locking up, and all the other stuff that comes with a pc game. The downside of Quake 2 for N64 in this respect is that it doesn't have the modem your pc does and you can't play hordes of other people online to see how good you really are.
For the most part, Quake 2 for N64 is a very accurate translation of the Pc version. The graphics are sharp, and the sounds are cool, though you don't have the Nine Inch Nails-ish type music, which got on my nerves anyway. If you love the Quake series, this one is just as good as the pc version, although I did like the original Quake better overall.
