Cosmo for Intellectuals? Viewed 242 Times

by   sfarmer76 ,  Mar 25, 2004
Pros: Breezy Contemporary Writing, Clean Layout & Design
Cons: Magazine Skewed Too Heavily To Female Audience
The Bottom Line: Ratio of Male to Female Writers Could Improve, I Heartily Recommend Reading Psychology Today.
Review: I think it's pretty safe to say that I am probably not the target demographic that Psychology Today has in mind. Most of the issues for this pop psych magazine feature women on the covers. Ostensibly, you ...

Analyze This

by   frainke ,  May 15, 2000
Pros: Very Informative
Cons: Only comes 6 times a year
Review: Since I am a late bloomer in the college field and my major is Psychology, I thought I would check out this magazine, Psychology Today. I find it to be rather enlightening. The articles really catch my eye and are very interesting.

Psychology..You Need It.

by   Nefology ,  Mar 22, 2000
Pros: Helps you to understand yourself
Cons: None
Review: Psychology today, in a few words is very helpful and educational. You will learn about yourself, your thoughts, your feelings, behaviours and how they all come together in ENGLISH TERMS.
It isn't hard reading, it isn't reading you need to go to...

Psychology Today: To Simplify & Improve Life Issues

by   charles ,  Nov 6, 1999
Pros: Simplifies trade's jargon and complex research results, easy to read, relevant to everyone's needs
Cons: Would like to see more life-based articles
Review: A good friend of mine invited me to help her work on an important paper she had to present to her psychology class the next week. She showed me her photocopies of articles. However, an article remained engraved in my memories up to this day....

From a college students point of view

by   zawadzka ,  Jan 14, 2000
Pros: the articles relate to real people issues and not just health issues
Cons: still contains some ads
Review: As a senior in college, majoring in psychology, I have found this magazine most beneficial to my studies. Though i don't plan to go into a psych related career the articles are really interesting. They don't focus on boring things, but rather studies for...

Psychology Today: Behavioral Studies for Laymen

by   Bryan_Carey ,  May 7, 2005
Pros: Good, thought- provoking articles
Cons: Too brief; Published only once every two months
The Bottom Line: This magazine is a good one, but it's a little short and there is a long wait between issues.
Review: Do you like to read about behavioral sciences and learn why people think and act the way they do? If so, then you might enjoy Psychology Today, a magazine about the social science that attempts to study human behavior and looks for relationships ...

A general good title....

by   molecule ,  Dec 2, 1999
Pros: Coverage of new developments
Cons: Very surface and non-challenging.
Review: Too often the value of a magazine or book is located in the material they choose to cover rather than the quality of writing, or depth of analysis that a publication covers. For example, would you want to read a medical textbook from the 1900's even if...

Worth the read.

by   anavidi ,  Oct 24, 1999
Pros: diverse articles, interviews with the greats in the field
Cons: not enough application of theories
Review: I look forward to every issue of Psychology today. This is a great magazine if you enjoy learning about the human mind. Now if you are a professional in the field then this probably isn't the magazine for you, but if you are a professional then you...

A New Psyc Today?

by   4fitnessinfo ,  Jan 19, 2000
Pros: One of the few general audience oriented publications devoted to accurate and useful information on psychology.
Cons: Would like to see more on current brain research, the why as well as the how and what.
Review: When I first read Psychology Today years ago, it was a serious publication and rather heavy reading. Recently, it was a bit light-weight, another mouthpiece for pop psychology. In 1999, the new editor, Robert Epstein, announced his intention to return...

Typically topical

by   brad_morris ,  Mar 2, 2000
Pros: Topical and timely subject matter
Cons: Hit and miss writing, ad inserts
Review: Psychology Today may not be the best magazine available covering this subject matter, but for the lay person, such as myself, it seems to do a fair job. I think the subscription is slightly expensive for what you get, and I subscribe to a lot of magazine...
