Author's Review

This is a great book for all parents. Gavin De Becker tells the parent the way it is. No over the top scare tactics. This is a book full of statistics and full of good advice on how to keep your children safe.
As I read this book I was marking pages and highlighting facts.
The author talks about sexual predators, strangers, nannies, babysitters, schools, family members, and I think the most important point, intuition.
He stresses that it is up to the parent to raise a safe and smart child.
One point I think if very good... Instead of teaching your child to be afraid of strangers you should help your child communicate with strangers if he/she needs help. You need to teach your child how to choose the right person to get help from. Mainly a woman with children but any woman will do. To teach your child to go to a police man is not good. Security guards look just the same and the Son of Sam, the assassin of John Lennon and the Hillside Strangler were all security guards.
I have recommended this book to all my friends and they love it.
I have not read another book that even compares to this book.
