Author's Review

My sister got this book for me along with The Gift of Fear by the same author. She saw it on Oprah. She also has a daycare and actually gives this book to all her parents. I have a 6 year old and am always worried what harm could happen to him. This book has good advice that I wouldn't even of thought of. For example - it tells you that you shouldn't teach your child to not talk to strangers! Instead you should be teaching them to trust their instincts. If they need help, they should be the ones to seek out an adult to help them (you do different situations such as having your child ask someone the time and then ask them why they felt safe asking that person and not a different person). They should not trust someone that comes to them for help. Example - an adult who asks you to look for a dog should not be trusted since why would an adult ask a child for help when another adult would be the logical choice). If lost, a child should ask a mom with kids to help them since they are more likely to help. A person in uniform is not a good choice since people impersonate them. There is so much in this book I have learned. I even took notes so I could look back at it as a refresher. A must read for parents!
