Author's Review

WHAT IT’S ABOUT

From the makers of great games like: Hitman 47, Tomb raider, Commandoes and Dues ex. comes another F.P.S Called Project IGI.

You are Ex SAS agent David Llewelyn Jones. Who is now working as a Freelance agent for a joint British/U.S. intelligence operation.
The game revolves around you hunting down a Terrorist who stole a nuclear weapon named Josef Priboi. You are up against his army of ex Russian soldiers who are now mercenaries. You basically hunt him down through loads of army bases and try to find him.

GAMEPLAY

The game is a one player only game so doesn’t support multiplayer which is really bad because some like to play at multiplayer games over the internet this was just one of the bad point to the game. It’s a first person shooter under the action and adventure category. There are about 12 levels to wade through where you will have to sneak into loads of enemy buildings which are heavily guarded by bad guys.

To get into there bases without getting noticed. You will have to hack into there computer systems to bring down there security cameras so they won’t see you. Play as a sniper and gun down the poor unsuspecting bad guy’s teehee. Steal there stuff like there weapons and there cars and use them against them or just to make an escape. Some doors you will have to pick the locks to make entry which is always fun to do. Slide down electricity cables this is great fun I loved this feature very SAS style gave me a little shiver down my spine first time I saw it. Most missions have different tasks and goals to do from sniping targets to getting valued information destroying tanks and all sorts.

WEAPONS AND GEAR

There are loads of weapons and equipment you take with you. You will always start with your Knife Glock 17 and MP5 these are your standard or default weapons. But there are loads of weapons you can steal like (big deep breath): AK-47, M16, Uzi, Desert Eagle, Minimi, Spas 12, Anti tank, grenades, flash bangs, sniper rifles and pistols. You also have cool equipment like binoculars and your spy satellite.

GRAPHICS

The game uses the Realscape Engine. It’s based on a flight simulator engine it’s been heavily modified. The landscapes are massive stretching out into the distant for miles. You can zoom in on a distant object with your sniper rifle or binoculars to see them better. They do look distant when they are in the distant and are very well done this way. The game goes from 640x480x16bit - 1600x1200x32 bit. However on the lowest resolution it still looks very sexy - So on my graphics card it looks great too lol. Bits of terrain and folk pop out of thin air as you get close very bad this I think is called pop up it makes the game play not as good. The bad guys are textured well looking very real the guns look like guns and not blocks. If you are far away from an object it looks like a block the closer you get I slowly takes on the form of the object which is really bad. The lighting is very good a sunny day looks sunny and night missions are very well done.

CUTSCENES

The Cut scenes are very like the game hard to tell which is which. They are used to tell you what your mission is about and give you a little look at the base you’re going into.

SOUND

The weapons fire sounds very real and at a distance it sounds like it’s in the distance which adds to the realism of the game great. Tanks sound real you can tell where they are just by listening in for them which again adds to realism. The sentries shout at you when you get seen -“OI, You SAS bloke yes YOU”. Very good feature to the game. David has a cool Aussie voice “good ey mate” it’s so funny just listening to him I found this very entertaining. The music fits the scene if it’s action it’s rocky music and for sneaking erm sneaky music lol.

REALISM

Ok there is a lot to be covered in this section so if you haven’t had a cup o tea have one now have a little break here because this is a big bit in my review I’ll split it into two sections good points bad points. Do you have your cup o tea and Jamie dodgers. Good well here we go with a big bit.

BAD POINTS

No blood and guts

I like blood and guts in a game and this doesn’t have enough. The bad guys don’t get thrown about when you blow them to pieces. They don’t hold there wounds or limp when you knee cap them. There intestines and other vital organ don’t spill out when you use a heavy calibre weapon. There limbs don’t come off. All you get is a little bit of blood and then they die so now good for blood hungry folk – like me lol.

The enemy AI is not so good

I love it when enemies are realistic with there AI but this is lacking here. Sometimes the bad guys don’t notice there friend just got killed even when obvious they will just stand there like nothing happened- erm Mr bad guy someone just capped your mate “so I don’t care”. If you shoot at the enemy they just run around like headless chickens they sometimes take cover but not often. Most of the time you will find they just stand they and shoot at you while there in the open. Once a bad guy goes down a replacement guard is sent only in the same place the first guy went down making it easy to kill the next one. When an enemy is in a room he will run round you in circles and try and shoot you this is really stupid and unrealistic.

Your realism

When you jump you will nearly fly this is really annoying nobody can jump that high. You don’t get real bullet holes only decals not even with wood this is really bad stuff every game does this - “Mr Programmer this is a 7.62 not an air rifle”. For some reason you get tangled up in trees if you walk through them this is bad for game play I think it’s a bug in the game. Where does he keep a thousand weapons how big are his pockets. Like all games you can put a whole armoury in your pockets it is great but so unrealistic I think game characters have a hidden Mary poppins carpet bag somewhere.

The locations

The installations are repetitive they all look similar the guards are placed at similar positions in the installations so you get a sense of déjà vu a lot of the times. The items in offices and garages all look similar; all the doors are the same doors all bases have different doors did the same decorator do them all.

GOOD POINTS

The bad guys

When shooting you'll need to shoot about half a clip unless you aim straight for the heart or head. This is great and very realistic. “Why don’t you be a good little boy and DIE!” lol. The enemy will try to hunt you down looking for you when you shot one of them if they see you that is. This can be really like of god oh god oh please no great realism. When you throw a grenade the enemies do run for cover great this is really amusing watching them rush out a building you just lobbed a grenade into teehheee. Sometimes they do take cover and when they do it is great and makes the game a whole lot more realistic. The bad guys shoot through walls into you which makes the game ten times harder but more realistic. Sometimes the enemy may chuck a grenade or flash bang at you which is great when it happens which isn’t much.

Little bits

All guns look and work like the real thing they really do look real which is a common thing now for games. When you nail someone with a shotgun they fly half way across the room great teehee this makes the game a lot more real I wish all the guns trough the guys depending on there power but no luck. You can also shoot through walls it great to sit inside a kill folk on the outside hehehehe.

Now are you glad you took my advice and got a cup o tea if you didn’t follow my advice you’re probably twitching and all crispy by now don’t say I didn’t warn you.

DIFFICULTY

Ok your basic guard is easy to kill he’s not a pro and is a dump person with an IQ of a fish but the Spetznatz are another story they are very hard to kill and have a better IQ. You will find that you will have to ration your ammo supply with great care you don’t get much ammo so make every shot count as they say. Here is a real bad thing you can’t save in the middle of a mission so if you die it’s back to the start for you “eidos do you know what a save feature is you silly people”. I could of thought of that and the best I have made is space invaders and bustout or remade that is. However the no save will add tension to your game play which actually improves the game play cause you are worried about getting all the way through in one piece. I’m always like PHEW when I finish a mission wiping the sweat of my face lol it is a good and bad thing. You are on your own most of the time so the odds are stacked against you this is very hard one man against a whole base full of bad guy (biting my nails now bad habit I know). It’s not a case off run in guns a blazing no no no this will just end up in you lying face down in a puddle. You have to sit with your binoculars and plan out how you are going to sneak in looking at bad guys movements and stuff. If the alarm is raised you can wave good bye to David he will end up creamed enemies will pour out the base chances of survival are very slim I have managed a couple of times it’s good to raise the alarm just for fun but not if you want to complete your mission.

WHO IS THIS GAME FOR

The game is for the people who like to think and plan out what they are going to do and like stealth. If you like games like Metal gear solid and Thief. You will like this. The game is very hard. You will have to put up with restarting over and over again.

TO SUM IT ALL UP

The game is great really it has a lot of enemy AI problems and little bugs that should have been ironed out. But at the end of the day I enjoyed this game for it’s difficulty level it was a challenge to the player and this is what makes the game a great game.
