Prizzi's Honor: this one makes the Sopranos look tame

by   telynor , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Aug 15, 2002
Pros: Twisted, very sick, black humor. Kathleen Turner and Anjelica Huston are great.
Cons: Much too gruesome for kids.
The Bottom Line: Great acting, direction, script -- and it's much better than most gangster films. Not for children.
Review: Every now and then, Hollywood takes a book, and makes a movie that outshines the novel. This was one of those films. Directed by the late John Huston, it took a funny, grim novel about the Mafia, and turned it into one of the more interesting films to...

PRIZZI'S HONOR: John Huston's Parody of THE GODFATHER.

by   macresarf1 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jul 26, 2000
Pros: Strong performances by three principals, especially Anjelica Huston and scene stealer William Hickey.
Cons: As the film doesn't seem a comedy at first, the climax may be too much.
The Bottom Line: PRIZZI'S HONOR is John Huston's perverse, perhaps autobiographical parody of The American Family, suggesting a black comedic version of THE GODFATHER.
Review: "My dear, crime is just a left handed form of human endeavor." Thus spoke Emmerich, the crooked lawyer in John Huston's influential film noir: THE ASPHALT JUNGLE (1950). He might have been speaking of PRIZZI'S HONOR. Or of Art. John Huston...

Prizzi's Honor

by   DavidMac , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Dec 6, 2001
Pros: Kathleen Turner, Jack Nicholson, some strange humour, complex storyline.
Cons: Perhaps too weird and off-beat for some, a quite nasty ending.
The Bottom Line: One of the strangest, yet interesting, mob movies ever made.
Review: One of the more peculiar Mafia movies has to be Prizzi’s Honour. Mind you, I’m not really a big Mafia film expert, but when I think of such a movie, I think of The Godfather, which is an epic story of a Mafia family and the loyalty and respect they...

Loved every minute

by   fivetonine ,  Sep 1, 2000
Pros: Well cast and entertaining
Cons: None that I can think of!
Review: I loved every minute of this movie! At first I was having a hard time accepting Jack Nicholson as a thug, but he won me over fairly quickly. Kathleen Turner was perfectly cast as the hit woman. Normally this kind of woman is portrayed as a hard, cold...

Romancing the Calzone: Love and Laughs Don't Quite Mix with the Mafia

by   Furie , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jun 17, 2004
Pros: The second half gets darker and more interesting
Cons: The romance doesn't quite work, the acting is overrated
The Bottom Line: Gangsters sleep with hitwomen, not fishes.
Review: The gangster film always has a pretty traditional view of women. They're either cheesecake or mothers, almost an afterthought while the men drive the action. John Huston's Prizzi's Honor does a little bit to change that by introducing a character ...
