whitfield crane, king of 80's rock returns to give his people hope.

Date of Review: Feb 2, 2003

The Bottom Line:  incredible insight and recording, you cant quit listening to this album after the opening track. addictive sound, what rock should be. get you hands on this now.
he did ugly kid joe, he did some other projects no body new about. now the ultimately whitfield crane, king of the 80's is back with a relative 90's underground rock supergroup. containing members of ugly kid joe, soulfly, and machine head. this is the debut record from the band(i believe excluding an ep release earlier in 2002.

incredible diversity. its an underground rock masterpiece. the entire album has you bouncing around the room. it has an energy all its own that is undeniable. simply flowing with originality. if youre planning on checking this album out sitting down forgedaboudit. it wont happen, the intesity will have you flying aorund the room, at least moving around. the energy is undeniable.

bill kennedy and logan mader went out of their way in production of this album. incredible insight and recording. then again having the great chris vrenna(NIN) on board doesnt exactly cripple the operation. logan is the guitarist for medication and bill's work with a couple of decent(ha ha) bands including Nine Inch Nails, Monster
Magnet, Sepultura, Alice In Chains. i doubt any of those ring a bell. its only a sampling of the best rock groups of the 90's. and the album portrays the talent behind it and the will put into it.

album tracklist:
1 loaded gun
2 nothing left
3 something new
4 walk away
5 no direction
6 underground
7 false idol
8 xanax
9 super pop
10 now and again
11 prince valium
12 end of ends
13 inside

album highlights:

loaded gun:
intense original riff, its whitfields voice. the song is destined for extreme goodness. flows into a distorted chorus with vocal range. awesome, just awesome. the man is back. excellent choice for opening album track. i was bouncing around my car. the song just rocks. this song is pivotal because it locks you in. you cant quit listening to this album after the opening track.

nothing left:
nice opening, perfect lead guitar by former lead guitarist of soulfly and machinhead(if youre unsure who these bands are they are amoung the most influencial and they(medication) are favorites of bands they play with for their intesity on stage and devotion to their music.) this song sounds like no other. the vocals sound like no other which pushes the other musicians to find their own niche. and man does it work.

Something new:
couldnt have a better name. incredibly addictive sound and distinct. the only album ive ever listened to,(excluding classic albums) that every song sticks with you and leaves a trace of its personality on you.

no direction:
intense beginning, awesome lead guitar fills in the verse. the song has you bouncing around the room. nice spacey solo. not too much, yet it doesnt leave you wondering what that was. it plays its part then back to the rock.

undergroung:
never thought youd see a slow jam on this one but they do it. like the old days of ukj. the song absolutely fits though. it fits nicely in with the rest of the album.

xanax:
distinct, drumming opening, that flows into a a tripy verse. headbanging verse that once again will have you moving about. im diggin deep for a comparison and its not happening. this song and album is a tribute to what rock should be. the solo is mixed to the back until the other memebers of the band all come in together.

inside:
i heard this song recorded as a demo on a cd a friend of mine had that hed picked up from the band when they played a show with them. before he told me what parties where involved i knew. this is one of the most distinct and best songs of 2002 i heard. it has its own sound, its radio worthy on a bad day, its whitfield for the new generation, it rocks, youll be bouncing off the walls unless there is a something preventing you from doing so. great vocals, great flow. its the first and only single to my knowledge and its worth the price of the entire cd.

please forgive any mispellings unless youre really anal. this review was written for you and on the run. thanks for reading.
