Author's Review
We registered for the Four Stage Bath System from The First Years, and after reading the reviews at several sites, I took it back just before my baby was born. I picked up the Primo Euro Bathtub because it was only $5 more, and got great reviews. Well the reviews weren't lies!
My daughter is four months old, and not once has she ever cried while in the bath. As a matter of fact, it calms her down.
I highly recommend this tub for parents who have large countertops or double vanities, especially. We sit the tub right in between the two sinks, and since we stand in front of it, it's completely secure. Also, there isn't any problem with bending over into the actual bathtub. If you have limited counterspace and a bad back, this may not be the tub for you.
Why I love this tub:
- Hands free due to the molding of the tub. My baby has used it since her cord fell off. The first few months, I had really bad carpal tunnel, and this helped tremendously.
- It's dual sided, so once your infant gets bigger and can sit up on her/his own, you can put her into the other side of the tub. So it grows with your child until she is ready for the real tub.
- My baby is actually submerged in some water. She loves reclining and having her body in the water. We call it "baby spa" when it's time for her bath. It also keeps her warmer. She's just now learning to splash with her hands on purpose, and this tub provides lots of tub fun. Also, there's plenty of room for bath toys.
--- Overall, it's just a comfortable tub for us to use with her, and the added safety of knowing that she is reclining without fear of slipping is a huge plus.
The one thing about this tub that could use some improvement:
- It's hard plastic, and in the days of "flat head syndrome", this tub doesn't help. I would love for them to put out a nice cushioned donut for the head area. I use those flimsy, cheap baby towels for her to lay on instead of putting her directly onto the plastic. Heck, I'm just glad to have a use for those dozens of towels that I don't feel are good enough to dry with and that I got for shower gifts.
I read where some people don't like the slow drain, but I don't have a problem with this because I use the tub in between my double vanity. I just let it drain directly out into the sink while I'm getting her diapered and dressed. Another thing I noticed that people didn't like was the fact that it was huge and hard to store. I don't have a problem with this because my husband and I use a different bathroom, so we just stick it in the real tub (usually we just leave it on the counter).
I seriously cannot think of another reason for a con against this tub. I LOVE IT.
