Product Review

Prilosec OTC Works Like A Charm

by   Mooncreek9 ,   Aug 25, 2008

Pros:  Less expensive than some prescription medications and just as effective.

Cons:  Should only be used for 14 days consecutively.

The Bottom Line:  It's worth a try for the price. It worked for me!

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I've been treating my Acid Reflux with prescription Aciphex for 3 years at a cost of $60 per month. Recently my insurance benefits changed and it was no longer covered. I was paying $180 at Walgreens and found it a little cheaper at Target for $165. After two months of that I asked my pharmacist if there was anything cheaper that would be comparable to Aciphex.

He suggested I try Prilosec OTC. I bought the pack with 2 14 day courses of treatment for approximately $20.

I began using it right away and found it to be just as effective as the Aciphex. Although you aren't supposed to use it longer that 14 days consecutively I am being monitored by my physician and continue to take it daily with no problems.

I have had to adjust my eating habits anyway, and occasionally I do have some breakthrough heartburn but I find that for the most part it is working just fine and I think saving $145 per month makes my heartburn feel better too!

A few things I have cut out that seem to make a difference are carbonated beverages, chocolate, spicy foods, fatty and fried foods.

I would definitely recommend trying the Prilosec OTC if you are having recurrent heartburn symptoms, but remember sometimes it takes a few days to work.
