The Worst Kitchen Gadget My Husband Has Purchased Yet
Date of Review: Jan 4, 2009
The Bottom Line: I just can not find anything I really like about this popcorn popper.
All of my family members insist on having popcorn when we watch a movie. I had grown up with popcorn being made on the stove in a special pot with a little oil and my husband grew up on microwave popcorn. I can not stand microwave popcorn and my husband is not big on stove made so he and I made a mutual agreement to look at popcorn poppers. The Presto Lite Popcorn Popper is what he came home with.
The Presto Lite popcorn Maker is made of a hard white plastic base and has a clear plastic cover and on top is a small yellow tray that is for measuring popcorn and doubles as a butter warmer. There is no on and off switch on the popcorn maker. If you plug it in it is on and if you unplug it its off. The cord for this is extremely short which is a pain if you have limited space and outlets. The cover can be taken off to help make storing this a bit easier. This retails for $20 to $25 depending on where you are looking.
To use take the cover off and add 1/2 cup kernels to the popcorn maker. Plug it in. No oil etc. is needed. I advise you to have a large bowl where the shute is before you plug this in. Almost a quarter of the kernels I put into the popper came shooting out the minute I plugged this in.
I was not impressed by this popcorn maker at all. After making three batches of popcorn with this and 1/4 to 1/2 of the kernels being left un popped and only getting maybe three cups worth out of each batch it is not worth the effort. The cord is to short and will not reach the area I need it so I had to move everything and still had to get an extension cord for it.
The popcorn itself was tasteless and stale. It was not light or fluffy in the least. I will be giving this to good will where hopefully someone will appreciate it better than I do. This machine is not worth the effort for what little reward you get.
