Oldie But Goodie!

I don't even remember when I bought my GranPappy. I started out with a Fry Baby around 20 years ago and shortly moved up to the GranPappy. At that time we weren't quite as ashamed as now at enjoying fried foods. In fact, I had Mable Hoffman's excellent book of recipes for the Presto fryers. These little appliances were a revelation for those of us who enjoyed fried chicken, French fries, onion rings, doughnuts, etc. Finally there was an appliance where we could fry without christening our entire kitchen!

The simplicity of the GranPappy is the secret to its appeal. No settings to fool with, nothing to monitor, just plug it in and wait for the oil to heat! I never have had a problem with this appliance. What's to break? Its non-stick interior makes cleaning literally a wipe-up. It takes up very little room and its light weight makes for easy storage.

Frying food has gotten a bad rap in this country, largely due to fast-food joints. Frying can still be a flavorful way to prepare meats and vegetables, when done properly. This little appliance can be a big help through its ability to maintain an optimal frying temperature.
