Presto FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer Makes Deep Frying Easy and Good Tasting

Date of Review: Mar 13, 2002

The Bottom Line:  I think you will be very happy with the taste of your deep fried food and the performance of the Presto FryDaddy.
Before I bought my Presto FryDaddy Deep Fryer Model #05420, I either baked the french fries, onion rings, shrimp, clams, and tater tots or wasted a whole cooking pot of oil to deep fry. Baking these items just didn?t have that taste of deep-frying. Boiling your oil in a cooking pot has the same taste but then you could not store the oil in your pot because you need to use your pot for other food, so you would have to wait until the oil cooled totally and transfer the oil to another container or have to dump the oil. So, when I saw the Presto FryDaddy, I decided to give it a try. My family has been extremely pleased with the taste of the foods that this unit has fried and believe me they are very picky eaters.

How to Operate It

Make sure you put this unit on a heat resistant counter or counter protector and not sitting underneath your kitchen cupboards because the unit gets hot, obviously, and adding frozen items to hot oil spits the oil up as frozen items contain ice bits. Next, add 32 ounces of cooking oil up to the fill line and plug it in. You?re ready to go in just 10 minutes of heating time.

Adding and Removing Food

If you are adding frozen food, try to remove the excess moisture to reduce splattering and I would suggest wearing oven mitts to prevent oil spitting onto your fingers when placing food in. Non-frozen food does not seem to spit any oil when adding. Fry 1 to 4 cups of food at a time. The unit will maintain the frying temperature automatically. Use your slotted stainless steel scoop that comes with your unit to stir occasionally and remove your food. Fried foods are generally done when they have reached the color of your desired brownness and are not soggy. Unplug from wall, let oil cool, and then put your lid on to save the oil.

Examples of Frying Times

Frozen French Fries, Onion Rings, and Tator Tots: 10 minutes

Frozen Shoestrings: 8 minutes

Raw Potato Fries: 15 minutes

Fresh Onion Rings: 3 minutes

Fresh Coated Fried Shrimp: 3-4 minutes

Frozen Fish Sticks, Clams, Shrimp: 5-6 minutes

All of these times depend how much you are cooking at the time, hence, the more you put in at one time, the longer it takes. I cook for a family of 4, so these examples would be for that food size.

Cleaning The Unit

Periodically strain the oil through a filter or cheesecloth to remove accumulated bits of food to assure longer oil life. Empty the oil when you feel the stored oil has been used enough. Wash the unit with warm water and detergent. Do not immerse the unit in water or put in dishwasher.

The warranty is 2 years on this unit and is 1200 watts of power.

Warning! Your family could become addicted to deep frying foods and might pout if not used frequently enough!
