Author's Review
I recently purchased this deep fryer while in my local department store in the mall. I had never seen one like it and was intrigued. I had a friend with me, and we were checking it out from top to bottom. It also happened to be on sale for 39.00, regularly 59.99.
I had the extra money that day, but still wasn't sure. So many times I have bought something and then been really disappointed when I used something that didn't meet my expectations or satisfaction. This was different.
Like I mentioned we checked it out thoroughly before I purchased it. It had a neat frying basket that lowered and raised down into the main compartment with a push of a button. I kept raising and lowering the basket to see if it would fail, or get stuck at any time. It didn't. I checked out the capacity. All though it was large from the outside, how large was it on the inside? I checked it out. It holds more then the regular Presto Grandpappy I had a couple of years ago.
I was totally enthused when I noticed the main compartment which holds the oil, comes out for easy cleaning unlike the Presto Grandpappy. It even had a filter, although I wasn't exactly sure what its purpose was until later.
I decided to purchase it, but made sure to hold on to my receipt, just in case I ran into one of those times when after I got it home and used it, I might not like it.
Well it was absolutely wonderful. I have used it 4 times now. It is a little bulky in which it takes up a little bit more space on the counter top, and the basket is a bit small for frying chicken, and larger pieces of meat. Also the fried chicken seemed to stick to the bottom of the wire basket. However the basket doesn't even have to be used. Its just there for a convienance like when frying small pieces of food such as french fries. The top comes open with the push of a button. The top also has a window that you can look in without raising the lid. You can lower and raise the basket during frying and the filter is to prevent odors when frying things like fish.
The outside stayed cool, and yes the top of the fryer is quite simple to take on and off. Which also makes it that much easier for cleaning. You can fry with or without the basket, and with or without the lid.
This is a very versatile deep fryer, and very easy clean up.
Also this fryer has temperature controls which the regular Presto Grandpappy does not have.
I have owned a few deep fryers. I find this one easier to use, and enjoy it much more then any I have owned without a tremendous expense. It isn't really much more then the regular Presto Grandpappy. I would highly recommend this to anyone who deep fries, and for those who don't deep fry, I'm sure you would if you had one of these.
