Sisters: The Greastest Love Of All

Practical Magic is a movie about sisters. Shocked? I bet you thought it was about witchcraft. Well, that is just a sub-plot in my opinion. I saw all the previews for this movie and I never once really knew about the sister bond in this movie. If I had I most definitely would have seen this movie a lot sooner!

The movie is about a blood line of witches. There are the two aunts (Diane Wiest and Stockard Channing) who raise their nieces after both their mother and father die. Supposedly there is a curse on the family. Anytime an Owens woman falls in love, death will befall their man. As is true with Gillian (Nicole Kidman) and Sally’s (Sandra Bullock) mother and father. Their father dies and their mother dies of a broken heart. So they go to live on an island with their witchy aunts.

The sisters learn the art of casting spells and mixing potions. Once they grow up, Gillian leaves to go party and live it up. Sally stays behind with her aunts and wants desperately to be normal. She ends up falling in love with Mike. They get married and have two beautiful daughters. Uh oh, she’s fallen in love…guess what happens?

Sally and Gillian have a very special bond. They just know when the other is in dire need of the other one. This alone makes this movie so special. I watch these sisters together and can’t help but think of my own sister.

Gillian gets into trouble with her boyfriend, Jimmy. Immediately, Sally drops everything to go rescue her sister. Things go terribly wrong. In comes Gary (Aidan Quinn), a special investigator from Tulsa, AZ.

Well, I don’t want to go into much more detail than that. I just want to say that the sister bond in this movie made me cry and want to be with my sister. One part of the movie they make an oath that they will grow old together with a bunch of cats and will die on the exact same day. Not two days ago I wrote my own sister something very similar to that!

There are two songs on this sound track that I really liked. One was “This Kiss” by Faith Hill. I got all teary eyed when it started playing. The other song was “You Were Always On My Mind”. I will get chill bumps from now on every time I hear this song!

Please go out and rent this movie. If you are turned off by the witchcraft aspect, ignore it and zoom in on the sister relationship. If you have a sister, you will definitely relate to this movie!
