I bought a new computer recently and it came with a modem that would not stay connected to the internet for more than a few minutes. I decided to try my old SupraMax modem and it would occasionally connect to the internet, and stay connected. It always gave me a different connection speed.
I finally decided to buy the BestData V.92/V.44 internal PCI modem at Circuit City and now I have no more problems connecting. Now it connects at 49K each time. Installation was easy, although XP recognized it and installed its own driver, and you are not supposed to use the Windows XP driver. So I had to remove the XP driver and install the driver that came with the modem. The only complaint I have is that I cannot hear anything from the modem. Have not tried faxing yet, but I bet it will work fine.
