Product Review

Good camera when it came out but now there are better options

by   lulaah ,   Mar 7, 2007

Pros:  small, good every day pictures, easy to use

Cons:  out of date, only comes with minimal sd card, lag time for flash.

The Bottom Line:  I love this camera and will get a new Canon digital Elph whenever this one ends up dying.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I love my Canon SD200! But then, I bought it almost three years ago now, when it costs somewhere around $300 and was one of the smallest, with one of the largest screens, some of the best mega-pixel capabilities and some of the coolest fuctions. All of this is no longer true of this particular version of the camera. Since this one came out I think that Canon has begun to manufacture this camera but updated as the SD600 or SD630, which are far better in every aspect. They have much higher mega-pixels (this is only 3.2, which is fine if you are just taking casual, everyday shots and don't intend to blow them up too large). The new version has a much larger viewing screen (this one is only around 1.5 inches across, which seemed plenty big when I got it but now, next to my friend's more modern Canon cameras seems teeny). And the new versions just has all sorts of new tricks up it sleeves that just weren't refined or created at the time that this version was. Oh, and yeah, thanks to advancements in the digital camera world and the increased availability, you can get the new versions for less than what I originally paid for my dinky SD200 a few years back. But, all that said, I still LOVE mine. It takes good pictures and is small enough to fit into even the smallest purses. I immediately bough an extra battery for mine so that I always have a spare and never miss any great photos. And I also bought a 256 mb SD card (although now you can also get a 1 gig card for the same price I paid for the 256) because the camera only came with a 16mb one (and I think this is same for the newer versions). I have been so pleased with my little old Canon SD200 that I am positive that in a few years I will update to a newer, sleeker version of the same camera.
