Wow, Capcom really messed up here!
Date of Review: Mar 15, 2001
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't recommend it because there is nothing extraordinary about this game, and Capcom can do much better! You want a great fighter, go buy Tech Romancer!
I am shocked. This is a Capcom game! I love Capcom, but this time, i have to turn my head in disgust! Is this the same company that brought me Tech Romancer and Marvel VS. Capcom? Powerstone, while it has its good points, is for the most part, disappointing. I guess I'll do the good stuff first. The Good Things: The ability to pick up and throw, swing, or break anything on the screen is pretty fun. I think its pretty funny to see your opponent jump in the air and try to drop down on you, but then you throw a box in his/her face and they go flying away! Also, the levels are pretty cool. My personal favorite level is Donvolta, because of the big spiked wheel and the fire coming out the middle. The characters are alright (my favorite is Wangtang) When you get 3 Powerstones, however, your character will transform and become more powerful and able to perform special attacks. These special attacks are the reason I kept the game as long as I did. It's fun to play as different people just to see what their specials are. Ok, now here it is, The Bad Things: This game definatly does not have enough characters to choose from. I beat it with everyone in a day! I need variety! I would also like something new. The characters have just the classic personalities (fat-slow-strong, small-fast-weak, hero, villain). I want a new character! I don't know what kind, that's not my job. My job is to gripe about things like this, not to fix them. This game is like nothing Capcom has ever released. It is FAR worse. What went wrong? I love Capcom! But they really screwed up here! And the "3D" is very awkward. The camera angle is good, for a strange type of 3D like this, but the view is still weird. Well, I guess I should give them a break. After all, they gave me Marvel VS. Capcom and who could forget Tech Romancer! I'll consider this Capcom's "Let's pretend this never happened"
