Author's Review
This was my first fighting game for the Dreamcast, I am very happy with it. First off I guess the Dreamcast is not doing so well in my town :-( because I bought this at a game rental place were all their used Dreamcast games are $8.00. So I got a heck of a deal buying this game.
Characters:
The characters on this game are like cartoons. They are made of polygons but I have seen no flaws in them like most polygon characters. Also the characters each have an attitude that you will notice right from the start. The only problem with them is the number of them. 10 in all and only 8 to choose from at the beginning. Also I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but you tend to like one character over all the other characters so that limits the fun also. Still, for all the bad things I just said the game is still great. Each character has strengths, and weaknesses for throwing things, using weapons, and how fast they are. Falcon is the only character without those, he is the medium, or the average. So picking a character right for you is a matter of trying them all.
Story:
The story is about all the characters fighting to find the Power Stone. What is the Power Stone? It grants you any wish you could possibly want! I would be fighting for it too!! After you beat the game with a character it shows what they do with the Power Stone. Although it is just pictures showing what they do, the endings do not leave you felling like you got ripped off, they are pretty funny.
Graphics:
The graphics on this game are amazing! Boasting a full 3-D world, near flawless characters, and lots of detail. The colors are also very bright and clear. Warning though: if you don't get out of the house much this game is to bright, in fact it will probably blind you. In other words it might be to bright and cartoony for some.
Game-play and Control:
As I said above it is full 3-D, so you can almost go anywhere and do anything. Simple game-play will turn off some people to this game, but will also bring in a lot. Buttons are simple. Punch, kick, jump. That's it but if you combine them you can do other moves to. Next, the point in battle is to get 3 Power Stones, get them and you transform into a super-being. Moves for them are just as simple. Press two buttons at the same time and watch the fire-works!! There is also lots of things to use and do in your stage. Plenty of weapons such as flame throwers, swords, guns, pipes, bombs, boxes and barrels. You also use things around you to attack. Jump off street lights, flip off walls, climb on ropes and roofs. This game has plenty of options.
Extra things:
After you beat the game each time you get something to add to an album you have. There are a few new weapons like the ray-gun and machine gun. There is VMU mini games to get too. You also get a full collection of art, and a place to listen to the sound-effects and music.
It may turn off hardcore fighter, but if you are look for a good game Power Stone is a good buy.
