Author's Review
My soon to be husband and I purchased this car all of 6 months ago, I figured we should beat...er I mean break it in before I wrote a review on it. The first thing that attracted us was the sticker price of $13,000. Not bad for a car with only 33,000 miles on it. (It now has 46,669.)
I know absolutely NOTHING about cars, save for how to put gas in them, and change the oil every 3,000 miles, so please bare with me.
To start with, we love this car. She's sleek, sporty, has a lot of get up and go, and got pretty decent gas mileage. I absolutley love the leather interior, and the fact that the seatbelts are built into the seat. It makes it easy to get in and out of the car. I like having all of my gagues in front of me on the instrument panel because I am a control freak. I want to know what tempurature the engine is, my oil pressure, how much gas I have left and how many miles I've driven. That kind of stuff is important, so kudos to Pontiac for designing the dashboard.
We went for the all power /sports option: power seats, butt warmers, power windows, door locks, mirrors, 17 inch aluminum alloy rims, lumbar control in the seats, and the standard 3.8 liter V6 engine. My pet peeve with the front seats: I wish that the driver's seat was programmable because my husband is 6'3 and I have to raise the seat all the way up just to be able to see over the dash! She's also equipped with "Traction Control" that is designed to keep the tires on the pavement, even in less than ideal conditions, such as snow and rain. It limits your chances of hydroplaning. Basically it transfers more torque to your tires.
The stereo in ours is a Bose stereo, even though we do not have the SSEi model, ours is an SE. The stereo sounds good, the highs are crisp and defined, and the lows hit pretty heavy, not muddy. There's at least ten buttons that I still don't know what they do or how to operate them.
The steering wheel is equipped with buttons that operate the stereo; play, mute, preset (changes the radio station), volume controls, and seek controls to change the track on the cd. GREAT IDEA to minimize distraction while driving!
The cruise control is conveniently located on the end of the turnsignal. With a push of a button, you're cruising along at whatever speed you so desire. To regain control, a light tap on the brakes is all you need.
There is plenty of legroom in the front, even with both seats moved as far forward as they will go. They will also recline far back so as to touch the back seat as well. I tested that out on our last drive to Portland and I slept for five hours undisturbed. The front seats are VERY COMFY!
The last time I checked we could go about 300 to 315 miles on a full tank of gas, I don't know if that's good or not but it seems like every time I turn around, the gas gauge is on 1/2 or 1/4. Maybe I need a new air filter or fuel filter.
The only drawback we've noticed so far is the steering column is making some really loud clunking noise when the car is making a turn that I've been advised from Pontiac that it's not a safety issue, just that the shaft needs lubricated. It's annoying, and it's a known problem with all the Bonnevilles from this year you'd think they'd recall it. The trunk is SPACIOUS, and I'm not kidding. I can stuff a month's worth of groceries and laundry in there and still have room for a dead body or two. The back seats are really comfortable too (but they don't flip down)and have this compartment in the middle that flips down and your passengers can put cans or bottles of soda in it, and have some space to write/draw/or use a laptop on. Comes in real handy when we take the kids to the Coast.
Overall my Bonnie Baby (yes, she HAS a name!) is a fun car to drive, she looks good (maybe it's the paintjob?) doing my daily errands! She's my sexy little grocery getter!
