Author's Review
I have owned my 2002 Grand Prix GTP 40th anniversary addition since it was brand new. I currently have about 60,000 miles on it, a mix of highway and city driving. The GTP model came with a super charged 240 hp v-6, which is still faster than most cars currently on the road in the same price range. The motor is solid even after all this time, however regular maintenance has included a leaking gasket, two hub bearings, and typical other parts that wear. All of these items were less than $500.00 to fix.
The only complaints:
When the vehicle reached around 40,000 miles there started a rattling sound in the engine compartment. The rattling sound comes from the tensioner pully, and the dealer indicated it is normal. It has not affected the car in any way, and the sound goes away after it warms up. The only other complaint is that the gas mileage sucks for city traffic. Even if you do not drive hard, the supercharger loves its Premium Only gas, and you will average 16mpg. Highway driving gets into the low 20's.
This car has been the best I have ever owned. It is rock solid, and the onstar integration helps a lot with finding out engine light problems (though every time it is because the gas cap is not on tight). It is a shame that the resale on these cars are so poor, compared to japanese cars in the similar market.
