Author's Review
The Story
I first saw this car when the new design came out in 97/1998, I fell in love instantly.
For almost 5 years I saved, and saved, and saved....
I went without food sometimes, would stay home on a Friday rather then "WASTE" money drinking at the bar with friends or beautiful women. I devoted my life to getting this car!
Ok...yeah I worked hard in college also :)
Just this spring, I was finally ready to get this car.
Of course I had resigned myself to getting the regular Trans-am
Without the Ws6 Ram-Air performance package due to the additional 4000-dollar price tag.
When I went to the dealership I learned that with the GM employee discount that my stepfather had, the price I would pay for this car would only be $27,770! $4000 dollars cheaper then the $31,850 sticker price.
I almost began to weep realizing that my dream was about to become a reality.
This car has surpassed all my expectations
Cosmetic features
This car is strikingly gorgeous in a mean, viciously powerful sort of way. The functional hood scoops look like a big set of pig nostrils on the hood, While driving on the highway, cars always seem to get out of your way rather then be gobbled up by this bizarre beast roaring up behind them.
The car has an up level rear deck spoiler, removal glass roof panels, and leather interior that comes standard.
My car has a black paint exterior and ebony interior, I am constantly being told that it looks like " The Bat mobile "
And compliments on how beautiful the car is from complete strangers.
Powertrain/Mech
The Ws6 comes with a 5.7 liter SFI v8 engine.
GM says it puts out 325 H/P at 5200 RPM,
and does 0-60 in about 5.2.
Brian Cam states ,"GM purposely underestimates the power of this car because they do not want people to consider it more powerful then the Corvette", GM has failed miserably in my opinion.
I have driven both, and as far as performance, The Ws6 and Vette are very close. As far as bang for your buck the Ws6 has as much muscle as the Corvette for a $10,000 cheaper price. This car is a Best Value buy in my opinion.
Personally, I do not see why anyone would get this or any other performance car for that matter with an automatic transmission and highly recommend against it. The Hurst 6 speed manual shifter is smooth and fast and does the job very well.
Priceless features
I am a younger guy, 22 years old, and I suppose that some things are more important to someone my age then to a more mature responsible middle aged person.
This Car brings out the jealousy in all people who can't afford it. Every time I pull up to a stop-light and a teenager in a Mustang, or in some cases a business man in a Cadillac Caterra see me, They will begin to get a strange look in there eye, Rev-there car up, and try to race me.
( I am not making this up ) For those of you who get a kick out of that kind of excitement and enjoyment out of just going to the store, then this is the car for you.
Women also seem to enjoy this car also, and the dates I have been on since getting this vehicle have always seemed to end up with, "Chris, Could I see your apartment" :)
I will leave the rest for your imagination.
Problems
There are only 2 problems with this car, It needs premium fuel, and guzzles it like a dehydrated shipwrecked man would drink water, I don't know where the fuel goes too but this car is a bottomless pit.
Skip shift feature: There is an annoying feature that won't let you shift into second gear if you don't rev the engine enough, It supposedly is a way to conserve fuel economy but it is very annoying, and I have almost been rear-ended because of it. I am trying to disable this feature.
A word for the wise:
I recommend a second vehicle to get groceries, and pick up kids. This is not a family car, and if you live in a snowy climate, I advice you store it in the winter.
Bottom Line
For the people out there who want to be thrown back in their seat, feel the rush of adrenaline every time you drive. Who have the money to pay extra for a car that will truly change aspects of there life, Then I highly recommend it.
Final note
My mere words cannot do this car justice, drop by your local Pontiac dealership and take it for a free test drive.
If you don't love this car after that, you don't have a pulse.
