Grand Am, Am I

by   WendyT ,  Aug 29, 2000
Pros: Great Looking; easy maintenance
Cons: None
Review: I have been crazy about the body styling of this vehicle ever since I first saw its twin 'sister' car, the Oldsmobile Calais in the mid 1980's. My sister bought a Calais (ordered to her specifications) and it was such a cool looking car that I...

Good, dependable car

by   kalinsmom ,  Jan 21, 2000
Pros: Very dependable, fun to drive
Cons: none really
Review: I bought a brand new Grand Am in 1991 for my first new car. I bought this car because it was very affordable. I just loved this car. It was a 2 door with red paint and very sporty. The only thing I did not like about this car later was that I didn't...

Sweet Little Ride

by   rotnoid ,  Jan 31, 2000
Pros: gas mileage, acceleration, availability of parts
Cons: insurance
Review: A few years ago when my 1985 Monte Carlo finally made its trip to that big junkyard in the sky, I was forced into searching for a new vehicle. My search was kind of limits due to major budget constraints (I am a full time student, part time employee)....

My 1991 Grand Am has 293,000 miles and runs great!

by   jessicalynh ,  Jul 23, 2002
Pros: Very reliable!
Cons: Remanufactured parts don't last long.
The Bottom Line: After 11 years and 293,000 miles, this car is still very reliable. We'll never trade it in when we buy a new one.
Review: I bought my 1991 Grand Am brand spanking new. It's a 2-door coupe with a 2.5 liter fuel injected 4 cylinder engine. At age 11, it now has 293,000 miles on it. Same tranny, same engine. Overall, it runs great.

We replaced the heater core in...

Great for speeding crazily in town

by   shutupliz ,  Aug 9, 2003
Pros: sporty exterior, comfy interior, wants to go FAST, surprisingly good sound on factory-installed system
Cons: replaced starter, alternator, battery, muffler twice, tires...shook like crazy at over 75mph
The Bottom Line: A FUN car...I used to say that, if I were filthy rich, I would just buy ten 1991 Grand Ams in different colors, rather than an expensive new car.
Review: The shape of the 1991s in particular sets them apart...so cute and unique...even with all the stuff ...

Good when handled with care

by   jwe124 ,  Jul 10, 2004
Pros: 23 Miles Per Gallon, not hard to start in the winter
Cons: Transaxle Converter Clutch malfunctions, acceleration shaky sometimes, slight miss
Review: I was in need of a new car, so I looked at this Pontiac Grand Am. It has the 2.5L Throttle Body Injection engine (not the Multi-Port Quad 4, thankfully). I had to unplug the Transaxle Converter Clutch Solenoid since it kept sticking closed. This ...

Run away, quickly!

by   oliviaryan ,  May 8, 2002
Pros: It was free
Cons: Everything else!
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't give this car to my worst enemy, but maybe to my ex-husband!
Review: I'm not sure if this is a really rotten car, or it just hates me. My sister bought it for $5,000 in 1998, had a new engine put in after a severe rain storm did some damage to the old one, and then gave it to my daughter when she graduated from high...

Not worth the trouble

by   BirdieEBL ,  Jan 18, 2000
Pros: Works well when everything is in top condition
Cons: Nothing stays in top condition for a very long time
Review: The Grand Am that I own is a 1991. Plus, it was a hand me down. I paid $1.00 for it, and I'm glad I didn't pay a penny more. It is not worth it. It's the little things that are falling apart, and if you get several little things together, you get a...

Grand Am Nothing for NOTHING!

by   laweiler1 ,  Jan 15, 2000
Pros: It was a pretty Candy Blue!
Cons: Transmission, Transmission, TRANSMISSION!
Review: I thought hard and long about voicing my opinion on this but I decided that others should know what's it's like to purchase a car (DEMO, 1100 miles at time of purchase, 1991) and have nothing but problems from day one!

I was...

Will Never Buy Another Grand Am/Pontiac Ever!

by   Scruggs4 ,  Feb 16, 2000
Pros: Handles great, affordable and stylish, good gas mileage
Cons: Mechanical problems at the last minute.
Review: I owned a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am. We bought it brand new from the lot. Power steering, tilt seat, awesome fabric, great system, etc. Rode great to. Handled beautifully!

After a couple of years, the car was great. No problems with it whatsoever....
