Author's Review
The faithful Polaroid One-Step reminds me a bit of the father in the Polaroid family of products. Cameras like the I-Zone (which my wife received for Christmas and lovesshe wrote a fantastic Epinion about it) come along and ignite new interest in the idea if instant photographs, and that is always good for a line of products.
My Polaroid camera is actually a predecessor to what is known now as the One-Step. Its a Sun 600, received as a gift years ago, but its overall style and operation is the same as the current generation of One-Step cameras. My parents also have a Polaroid One-Step, which my mother won in a drawing, also some years back.
I dont use my Polaroid in place of a regular camera; I use it as a supplement. Sure, the film is expensive (averaging $10-$11 for a pack of 10 pictures, depending on whether you purchase it on sale and whether or not you purchase a multi-pack of film. But on the flip side, there are no developing costs associated with the film, as compared to other types of cameras.
The One-Step camera is about as simple to use as anyone could ask for. Lift up the cover, aim and shoot--- then, just wait for the results.
What kind of uses can one find for a Polaroid camera? Well, one that comes to mind is a gathering of family or friends (reunions, birthdays, and weddings). Snap some pictures, and, voila, instant keepsakes. And with some of Polaroids special types of film for the One-Step (like black & white film and special pictures you can draw on), you can get a little more creative.
Just one example: my wife and I had a New Years Eve party this year, and purchased a time capsule in honor of the year 2000. As the party went along, we had some pictures to place in the capsule right away.
Besides the fun uses, having a Polaroid camera can also serve practical functions as well. Quickly photographing damage to a house or car for insurance purposes, for instance. Or if youre house hunting, you can snap pictures of a house to help you remember what youve looked at.
One of the greatest compliments I can pay a product is to say that I would purchase another one if it were to break down, and I certainly feel that way about my Polaroid One-Step.
