Author's Review
For those of you wondering why anyone would buy a cheap little Plymouth Acclaim, I have the answer. Money goes a long way with this car.
Why buy it? With a touch of the gas petal, my car has started the first time nearly every time for more than 3 years. And once it's warmed-up, it'll get you where you need to go. I've only driven it 17,000 miles, but they've been uneventful, which I appreciate beyond measure. I live in Colorado where the weather is pure punishment for a car. The ice build-up can make it very difficult to open the Acclaim's doors. In fact, one time I had to kick the driver's door open from the inside. But once the heater is warm, you won't care if it's 30 below outside. As far as ride goes, I've pushed this car to torturous tire-screeching limits. So I can honestly say, aggressive drivers need not apply.
Why not buy it? Huh oh, hear it comes. The dreaded assault. Starting my car takes a caring owner who fully understands the car. It's very picky on the start and has a very low idle. The roof clear coat seems to have disappeared over the years, leaving a dull grimy reflection. All four brakes went out and cost a whopping $1,000 to replace every last piece of them. But, I believe this to be the error of the previous owners, who neglected the car at every turn. The car is severely underpowered for its 2.5 liter engine, but does make exceptional use of the 100 Horsepower is does have.
Still can't decide? I know this is all too brief. But one thing is for sure. When I drive any other car, I feel like I'm cheating on my Acclaim. I feel like I'm wearing someone else's gloves, and they just don't fit. I wish this car would last forever. But I know it won't, especially with aggressive driving tendencies. Occasionally, I want to buy a new car. But my Acclaim keeps looking at me saying, "You know you want me. You can't get rid of me. I'm too good to you."
