Author's Review
I bought this for my daughter when she was about 5 months old. The front carrier we owned was getting too small for her and put a lot of strain on my back. I bought this at Toys R Us for about $35, which I thought was very reasonably priced. I trust the Playtex brand and really liked th idea of being able to hold her on the side, so I thought I would give it a try.
When I first took it out of the box, I could tell that it was a very good quality, maybe not as high quality as Baby Bjorn carriers, but generally, it looked very durable and safe. At first, I had a hard time getting used to the way it tightened and fit around me, because it is much different than a front carrier, but with some practice, you get the hang of it and it becomes much easier. I would suggest trying it on and off a few times before actually putting the baby in it, which does make it a little more difficult. It snaps around your waist with a buckle and the straps can be tightened to fit for length and of course, to adjust for the baby.
Once the baby is on the carrier, it is extremely easy to adjust the straps, I had no problem with that. I would probably recommend waiting until your child can hold its head up before using this, because while it does offer support for the baby's body, it is not designed to hold up the baby's head.
It was very nice to be able to do different things while still carrying around my daughter. You can get some light housekeeping done, mix her cereal or babyfood or just have a free hand for a few minutes. We never really took this anywhere else, but I am sure it would come in handy if you took it to the store or on any other errands you might have. I was very happy with this product, I liked it very much and so did my daughter.
