I'm hooked!

I bought Guitar Hero III for PlayStation 3 because I had Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360 and loved it. I'm not disappointed.

This is the type of game that will totally get you hooked. It's one of those where you can see your progress, your weaknesses and makes you determined to get better. The songs are obviously new from the other previous versions. The game comes with a good selection and the ability to download more. Some downloads are free and some can be very costly.

The game comes with a guitar controller and simulates playing the guitar. Notes scroll across the screen while the player has to strum the guitar and press the color coordinated note button.

There is a easy mode which just uses 3 notes, a medium mode which uses 4 notes, and a hard and expert mode with use 5 notes.

At the main menu you can chose from: Career, Co-op Career, Quickplay, multiplayer, training, or options. The training mode is a great place to start and also a great place to go when you get stuck on a certain song or style of playing. The quickplay is great when your playing with others or your friends are playing your game. Other than that, you'll mainly stay in the Career mode. In this mode you'll grow as a guitarist and continue to unlock songs, guitars, players, etc. You'll earn money and be able to spend it at the "store". You can purchase guitars, characters, songs, videos, etc.

In the options mode you can calibrate. This is a great feature. Some TVs have a audio visual lag that makes it almost impossible to play the game. Using this option screen will fix this calibration issue. I've had to use it on every TV I've ever played on.

One new addition is the Battle. It is part of the game you are battling against someone. Sometimes this is required in order to unlock additional games in the career mode. When battling hitting certain notes will give you advantages over the other player. These advantages include things such as forcing the other player to play lefty, play with a broken string, or have an amp overload. These battles are a nice addition to the game and can be very challenging.

Overall the game is pretty similar to the other versions of the game. I love it, the old stuff and the new. One thing I'm not crazy about is all of the music is very similar. I wish they had a better variety of song styles.
