Author's Review
I originally watched the BBC's nature series Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel. Unfortunately, I do not have High Definition access, but nonetheless, the series was beautiful to watch, end extremely informative. I happily purchased the BluRay DVD collection set, which this review is about.
The series itself is beautifully shot all around the world. There are eleven parts, each touching on a separate subject and each just about 50 minutes long. The version aired on the Discovery Channel in the US was narrated by Sigourney Weaver, luckily the DVD collections feature the original narrator, Sir David Attenborough. Everything from the high seas to the ocean depths, forests, caves, mountains and the animal species that call those habitats their homes is covered.
Viewers are treated to spectacular camera work showing night-vision views of a lion attack, a giant flock of snow geese (one of my favorite scenes - truly beautiful), the travels of a polar bear, and unique deep see creatures. The scenes of a seal trying to escape a Great White Shark were captivating - although the outcome was pretty predictable (Shark 1 - Seal 0).
I just cannot even begin to describe how beautiful this show looks on BluRay - the wonderful and hard camera work by the BBC crew paid off well, this is a DVD set I will watch over and over again and recommend to anyone.
