Author's Review
The Pippi Longstocking Collection is a set of all four to the Pippi Longstocking films staring Inger Nilsson. There is two other Pippi Longstocking movies that are not in this collection but they do not star Inger Nilsson. The other two Pippi movies are The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking Staring Tami Erin and a cartoon version. In case you want to look those up.
The four Pippi Longstocking movies are Pippi Longstocking, Pippi Goes on Board, Pippi in the South Seas, Pippi on the Run. These movies were made in 1969 - 1970 so the picture isn't the best, some of the shots are really dark. These movies where also made in Sweden so it is English-dubbed. So their mouths move at different times as the voice and it can take some getting used to. These were also low budget films so the effects are not so good either.
So the picture is crappy, the sound is crappy and the effect are dumb looking. So why would I was to watch it? Because they have the best story line. As there are crazy things in these movies that you couldn't even dream up. There is so much adventure and fun. Pippi Longstocking was a TV show and books before the movies. They also have some fun music in here you can sing along too.
Pippi Longstocking is about a young girl who lives alone with her monkey Mr. Nilsson and her horse Old Man. It is cool because they actually have a real monkey and a real horse in all four movies. They live in her dads (papa) house which is called Villa Villakula. I love the names in this movie. Her dad is out sailing the seven seas and comes back from time to time. He left her with pot of gold for money and she is pretty good about taking care of herself. Pippi is so fun to watch, she does the weirdest things. Like standing on her horse and making flying beds. She is also very strong and can lift anything. Pippi has two friends named Tommy and Annika who go on her adventures with her. They are just normal kids though and sometimes they think Pippi is crazy.
My favorite Pippi Longstocking movie is Pippi in the South Seas. Pippi's dad gets caught by bad pirates in a pirate town. He writes Pippi to come save him and off they go. How they get there is just a adventure all on its own. There is so much too this movie is why it is so interesting. Pippi makes a plane fly with her arms, she flights pirates and wins, they find treasure, and all sorts of other stuff. It a fun adventure movie even for girls because there aren't many adventure movies with a girl as the main character. Boys will like it too.
The other three movies are about;
Pippi on the run - Annika and Tommy want to run away because they don't want to do chores. Their mom ask Pippi to go with them to keep an eye on them. They get into all sorts of crazy stuff. Like going over a waterfall in a barrel, type rope walking over building, and making a car fly. This is my second favorite movie because its a adventure type like the South Seas one.
Pippi goes on board - In this movie all different stuff happens. Pippi throws a crazy birthday party for Tommy and Annika and she causes chaos at a carnival. This movie is my least favorite but it is still very funny.
Pipping Longstocking - This was the first movie and it lets you get into the characters. You learn why Pippi is so crazy and why she wears her hair sticking out in pig tails.
These movies are all rated G and they run from 79 minutes to 93 minutes. All four films star Inger Nilsson, Par Sundberg and Maria Persson. Language options: Original theatrical release English dubbed; Spanish language dubbed.
