Is it the drive for you? You bet!

by   midknight2k3 ,  Jan 24, 2003
Pros: Strong laser, Quiet, Awesome picture quality
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Wow! Almost broke my 5-day-in-a-row - epinion-a-day streak! Oh yeah... ummm, good drive...
Review: MY STORY
This was actually the drive that shipped with my custom-built Compaq Presario 7000. I had never been the owner of a DVD-ROM drive in my life, except for the 12X one I had had in the computer that was returned about two weeks ago (it...

Finally a DVD-ROM drive to replace your archaic CD-ROM drive...

by   kyunghwee ,  Jun 15, 2001
Pros: Reads DVDs & CDs VERY WELL, quiet, & fast!
Cons: RPC-2 drive (region-locked)
The Bottom Line: One of the best DVD-ROM drives for your multi-media machine! Fast, quiet, and even reads some 'unreadable' discs!
Review: I've been using my Pioneer DVD-115 since my last DVD-ROM drive from Sony died out on me a few months ago. If you want to read more about that story, please check out the following link:

The best DVD drive to date!

by   matwood ,  Jun 5, 2001
Pros: Great playback quality, high compatibility with all media.
Cons: High-Pitched whine - (but could be a factor of all 16x drives)
The Bottom Line: This drive is a must due to reliability, compatibility, and excellent playback of DVD's.
Review: Background/Initial Impression
After my disappointment with Creative Labs DXR3 (see my review there), I bought this from Verasoft on a whim, because it was a 16X DVD-ROM for $67 (can’t beat that). To say UPS is slooooowwwww delivering from...

by   j00rd4ddy ,  Jun 24, 2001
Pros: This is a fast, sweet DVD-ROM drive, me likey.
Cons: I don't know of any ???
The Bottom Line: This is the BEST DVD-ROM out on the market right now, and for something like $70 or less on www.pricewatch.com ...
Review: OK so I was building a new computer and needed a DVD-ROM drive. Well, I've had Pioneer home theater stuff in the past, so I knew they were a good brand. Also, a few of the people I know on the internet recommended it. So I went on PriceWatch (one of...

Plextor is to CD(R/W) as Pioneer is to DVD(ROM/R)

by   nad_masters , top reviewer in Computer Hardware at Epinions.com ,  Oct 3, 2001
Pros: Fast CD-ROM reads, reliable, not too noisey (but nosiey nonetheless)
Cons: Quirky slot loading (tray ver avail), noisey, questionable DA rip quality, 4x sustained DVD rips
The Bottom Line: It works, it works WELL, but there are still lots of mysterious unknowns.
Review: While Plextor taken the CD format to the highest level, Pioneer is doing the same to DVD. Plextor created what is arguably the best CD-ROM and CD-R/W drives ever. However, with DVD drives that can read both formats, Plextor quits the CD-ROM biz for the...
