Author's Review
I've used Norelco triple-headed razors for over 20 years. My previous razor was the very reliable 725RL, which has been my primary razor for the past decade or so. My wife picked up the Arcitec 1060X as a Christmas gift for me.
I find that it gives me the closest, most comfortable shave of my life. It required no settling in period for me, as I got a fantastic shave first thing Christmas morning.
I guess that's what makes me so incredibly angry when it comes to describing Norelco's decision on a simple sideburn trimmer. The sideburn trimmer that is included on the 1060X is deplorably inadequate in multiple ways!
It's half the width of all other Norelco sideburn trimmers that I've ever used, meaning that trying to get a straight sideburn is now twice as hard as before.
On every Norelco razor that I've owned, the sideburn trimmer pops out and above the razor heads. This way you can see the trimmer when you shave your sideburns. Makes sense, since most of us need to see when we shave. Apparently Norelco decided to forgo this pioneering design from the annals of razor history. On the Arcitec 1060X, the sideburn trimmer is well hidden behind and beneath the razor heads, making sideburn trimming a matter of guesswork, and trial and error. Fun, Norelco style!
Finally, and really the all important problem. The trimmer simply doesn't cut well at all. I'm not exaggerating. At first, I believed it was malfunctioning but it turns out that it's just really bad.
On the Arcitec 1060X, Norelco got the sideburn trimmer wrong three times. I wasn't prepared for this, as I've never had a complaint about a Norelco in the past. To think that they managed to devolve the easiest thing to get right on a razor, pains me to no end.
I've contacted Norelco with my tirade, and received an annoyingly bubbly response via email assuring me that my message would be forwarded to the department that reviews customer recommendations. Uh, yeah sure!
