Pros: Plays divx files, slim profile
Cons: Slow response time, flimsy construction, poorly designed remote
The Bottom Line: Cheapest DVD player I've seen at brick-and-mortar stores that comes with divx playback. If you need that and nothing else, this works.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: Well, DVD players have finally become VCRs; you can get a DVD player for under $10 (I saw a stack of super-slim players last year on clearance for $6.99 each) and basic recorders for under $50. So unless you're getting something super fancy, you...

Pros: Great picture on large screen TV
Cons: Analog audio output muted for DTS soundtracks
The Bottom Line: Great HDTV picture. Plays it all, even damaged discs.

Review: The new Philips DVP5140 NTSC/PAL dvd player may be a worthwhile upgrade to the popular Philips DVP642. The Philips DVP5140 produces a better picture than the DVP642. The DVP5140 is "DivX Ultra" certified. The DVP5140 is an excellent example of...

Cons: No eject on remote or time display.
The Bottom Line: Great, low cost option with no frills.

Review: I am not a techie when it comes to DVD players. I know that this DVD player is a 12 bit player (as opposed to a 10 bit player) and that it has some very impressive stats for a $50 DVD player. However, if you're looking for a techie review, this...

Pros: Fast forward up to 32x. Remembers replay point in up to 5 DVDs.
Cons: Cannot pause during slow play.
This reviewer does not recommend this product.
Review: My only complaint with this player is that it has only a combined Play/Pause button. Pause feature only works in normal play, not in slow play, making it very difficult to isolate a particular frame. If using a universal remote with a separate Pause...

Pros: When it decides to work properly, it is a good unit.
Cons: I am just staying away from Phillips/Magnavox from now on.

Review: I am now on my third DVP5140/37 from WalMart since Oct., 06. Within one month first unit started making strange noises, would show "loading" icon in corner, make some more noises, show "DVD Video" in corner and most of the time stop. Had to keep...

Pros: Good Picture, reads damaged disks well, and keeps ticking.
Cons: Remote gives a lot of trouble, lack of unit buttons leaves no options.
Freezing. The Bottom Line: I will be putting the money to better use on a more expensive unit than buy this again. Too much trouble become aggravating and life is too short.
This reviewer does not recommend this product.
Review: For the record my family does not have cable and we watch a tonne of movies. So our DVD player get a constant workout. We have worked our way through five DVD players in four years. So I am comparing this player to all the others I've had to this...
