by   billsfan2120 ,  Mar 19, 2008
Pros: Good size, good play back, good price, low maintenance
Cons: None as of yet
The Bottom Line: I will recommend this product to all
Review: Ok, here's the scoop on one of the best DVD players out there in the market. It is small, yet not to small. I will fit in about any entertainment set that you own or on top of the TV. It plays DVD beautifully and never lets dust in. It will play movies ...

Great HDD recorder w/o TIVO subscription fees

by   cwroten ,  Dec 5, 2007
Pros: Reasonably priced. Works as described. Good manual.
Cons: Tiny button remote. Recorded title names don't include day-of-week.
The Bottom Line: Excellent product *if* you've defined your needs accurately. I'd buy a 2nd one. Good stuff.
Review: Bought mine directly from Philips in Oct 2007 (after being unable to find anyone else actually having it in stock) and have been very pleased with it. No real problems thus far. I was looking to get a DVR without the programming guide and required ...

This is the one I had been waiting for!

by   zzyzzx ,  Jul 2, 2007
Pros: No need to use discs.
Cons: Buttons on remote are really small.
The Bottom Line: Get one of these and throw out your VCR!
Review: I have been wanting a TIVO that works off the air for a few years now. That and the fact that my VCR broke in the summer of 2006, and I wasn't going to get another one with an analog tuner with the digital TV being just around the corner. So I waited ...

The latest generation in HDD video recorders

by   Ames100 ,  Jun 22, 2007
Pros: Digital tuner, HDD recording, DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW recording and high-speed dubbing, 1080p upconversion
Cons: Crippling copy-protection restrictions, lack of battery backup, no program guide or automatic naming
The Bottom Line: Good value for the money, routine operation works well, but it would be a lot more useful without those imposed copy-protection restrictions.
Review: This Philips video recorder is one of the latest generation with a built-in digital tuner, an update mandated by the FCC for all new models sold in the USA after March 1, 2007. It features a 160 Gbyte hard disk drive, direct recording and high-speed ...

Impressive recorder for DVD and DVR use

by   jvolzer ,  Feb 12, 2008
Pros: Digital tuner, DVR with no subscription, pause live TV, simultaneous record & playback, dubbing
Cons: tedious titling, no timer titles, no DL, no way to group or organize harddrive recordings
The Bottom Line: Lots of features in this DVD/DVR device. The manual is actually decent. Great step up from just a plain DVD recorder.
Review: The Philips DVDR3575H is a DVD recorder and a 160 GB hard drive DVR in one unit offering 1080p upconvert capabilities and a digital/analog tuner. Background: I’ve stepped up to the DVDR3575H from an older Philips recorder, ...

Best of the 2007 ATSC DVD Recorders

by   comparator ,  Jun 29, 2007
Pros: Hard drive provides chase play and 66 hours of programs in default record mode.
Cons: Doesn't record or pass through high def, can't manually add channels.
The Bottom Line: Hands down the best ATSC recorder I have tried and should do until stand alone high def recorders come out. Three hundred bucks well spent.
Review: This unit, purchased a couple of weeks ago, is the sixth ATSC DVD recorder I've owned in 2007. The first five went back; this one, at least so far, is a keeper. I get television strictly via over-the-air, as opposed to cable or satellite. My ATSC ...

Fantastic price and functionality for my purposes

by   tamiqua ,  Feb 11, 2008
Pros: Price!- Subscription free HDD/DVD recorder for around $200
Cons: Remote
The Bottom Line: Great if you don't have an HD TV and do not want to pay a monthly fee. May want an extended warranty based on some reliability problems others have had.
Review: Having read the extensive reviews of other posters and generally agreeing with the pros and cons that have been written, I will add some notes for those that may have a projector set up. I chose the Phillips instead of another Tivo Series 3 (the ...

Love This Unit (couple of problems)

by   trgrant ,  Feb 26, 2008
Pros: great recorder, does almost everything you could want
Cons: No unique naming of scheduled recording, some problems with dubbing.
Review: I was finally tired of using tapes to record my favorite TV shows. I knew that there were hard drive recorders out there, so I thought that I would give this a try. It works great. I knew that it had issues with the title of recorded items. I wish ...

Bought this unit about 2 months ago, and like it.

by   georgelew ,  Dec 18, 2007
Pros: Will play DIVX and JPEG files besides you music and video DVDs.
Cons: No TV guide so it doesn't name the program you're recording.
Review: This is my second HDD recorder. My first one was a panasonic with a hard drive, but it finally went out. Looking around for another one and finding out that they don't make them anymore was a bummer. This Philips unit works great, I have a big dish ...
