A huge improvement

Date of Review:  Apr 25, 2007
The Bottom Line: It's a step in the right direction, but the operation is very slow and the channel management poor.
Review: This was the second DVD recorder from the new generation with ATSC tuners I tried - the first one was the LG DR787T. It was a close call, but at the end (and after trying the Samsung DVD-AR650 of course!) I decided to keep the LG.

The...

Some Nice Features, Some Not So Nice Features

Date of Review:  Apr 28, 2007
The Bottom Line: Would not recommend purchase of this unit because of design flaws and reliability issues.
Review: First, the positives. Picture and sound quality on playback are excellent. The remote has a toggle with a 30 second commercial skip at the top and "Rapid Play" at the bottom. You can hit the Skip up to 6 consecutive times in a row with a little...

Good choice if you can live with the quirks

Date of Review:  Jul 29, 2007
The Bottom Line: It ain't high def, but great SD picture quality.
Review: Bought this on impulse after seeing that it had a built in ATSC tuner. It replaced a Cyberhome CH-300 on a 27-in conventional TV in my bedroom. The first thing you'll notice is that it is dead slow in loading and accessing content on DVD. Maybe this...

A Cheap Unit

Date of Review:  Aug 5, 2007
Review: After some bad experiences with other ATSC DVD Recorders, I decided to check them all out. This was one of them. See my other reviews.

The picture quality was pretty good. I found the Samsung DVD-AR650 to have the best picture. The Philips...

recording flaw

Date of Review:  Nov 10, 2007
Review: I bought this recorder to transfer images from my DVD cam to a standard DVD. I learned through countless hours that you can not record in 16:9. Even if you send the recorder a signal in 16:9 it will record in 4:3. Page 38 of the manual clearly...

Phillips is Best Picture Clarity on "CRT" TV

Date of Review:  May 24, 2007
The Bottom Line: I recommend the Phillips DVDR3505/37 for the "WOW" picture quality displayed using "CRT box" TVs and for true to life 4.3 Pan&Scan screen viewing option for HD widescreen programs.
Review: The Phillips DVDR3505/37 has the best "digital tuner" picture quality out of the two other DVD recorders that I have tested with "digital tuners" (Panasonic and Samsung). The Phillips DVDR3505 produces an amazingly clear OTA digital picture on my...
