Inferior device from an inferior company
Pros:
It was inexpensive.
Cons:
Frequent resets required, recording and reception problems, very slow to respond to remote control commands
The Bottom Line:
Not recommended, especially considering DirecTV's inferior customer service and deceptive billing practices.

Author's Review
Caveat emptor!! I originally received a DVR when a DirecTV system was installed in my home on February 12, 2007. The problems with my DVRs have been constant and pervasive, as documented below. 2 or 3 replacement DVRs were supplied by DirecTV after various problems with them. And be aware that if DirecTV sends you a new DVR, that will extend your commitment date (contract, in effect) for 2 years from the date the DVR is mailed. Of course, DirecTV so-called customer service representatives will not inform you of this fact!
January 19, 2008: DVR required a lengthy reset, it would not show video on any channel.
February 3, 2008: Not displaying video, audio only. Reset required.
March 12, 2008: Programs/channels interrupted by "Searching for Satellite" message (771), this interrupted the audio and video signal and disrupted program recordings on the DVR.
March 25, 2008: Lost signal completely on channel 264 at 2:14 AM while recording a program. Signal also completely out on channel 271.
April 2, 2008: DVR spontaneously decided to turn itself off and on, a few minutes of viewing time was lost.
April 3, 2008: DVR again mysteriously turned itself off and on, more viewing time was lost.
April 14, 2008: DVR again turns itself off and on, ruining my recording.
May 11, 2008: DVR once again turns itself off and on.
June 4, 2008: Had a short power failure today. This disabled my DVR and necessitated a lengthy 9 step process to restart the DVR, requiring the help of DirecTV customer service personnel.
June 25, 2008: DVR orange light indicated a program was being recorded, but DVR would not display what program. Another reset resolved the problem.
July 22, 2008: DVR would only record one program/channel at a time. The usual lengthy reset solved this.
