Pretty Useless... For Me Anyway
Date of Review: May 7, 2009
The Bottom Line: This particular model is absolute junk. It doesn't work well at all... it's not even like it "kind of" works. Try a different model or something else altogther.
This review is for the Philips Norelco BodyGroom BG2020.
My overall experience with this product has been very unpleasant.
This review is when using the product according to the instruction manual. Some people don't use items properly then get irate when the products don't work (because they aren't following the directions). Of course I tried using the product before reading the instructions... I mean I've used clippers/trimmers before. So after the poor performance, I did exactly as the directions suggested to no avail.
The reason I purchased this product was because I was hoping it would make taking care of my body hair easier. Two main reasons I bought this product are:
1. To keep underarms and pubic area trimmed
For trimming I found the razor pulling hair a lot... at first I thought the hair was getting caught in between the guard and trimmer... so I tried using it without the guard... and it still pulled.
Then I figured maybe this pulling is normal so I just kept going with very disappointing results. Not only does the trimmer tend to pull hair, but it simply does not cut very much hair at all. Looking closely I can see hair going into the moving blade part... and it doesn't get cut... sure some hair gets cut... but the majority of it does not.
For comparison, the trimmer section on my electric razor cuts all hair that enters the area... two strokes is enough to take my sideburns off. In all actuality, I have owned several electric razors... and the trimmers always cut the hair.
So this leaves me a little confused at how the trimming section on this product can perform so poorly... they basically use the same method.
1. To shave the hair that grows on the shaft of the penis and scrotum
Whoa. What a very bad idea. For the most part, the foil part of the razor cuts hair... it also nicks. You also have to go over the same area multiple times to get all the hair, and even then it still leaves very noticeable stubble!
Yes I am very aware that this is contradictory, as in leaving stubble implies that it doesn't shave close enough... and nicking the skin implies that it shaves too close... but that's what I get.
And no... I am not pressing down too hard... nor do I have any skin imperfections that would cause this.
Additional reasons I bought this product were:
1. Extremely positive reviews it received on the same site that I bought it from... HMMM
2. The 60-day money back guarantee. Even though I knew I wouldn't use it... it was more like... if they are giving a 60-day money back guarantee... it must work as described (which is why this is also a CON)
3. 2-year warranty against it breaking down
For the most part... I like everything else about the razor...
It's comfortable to hold in many positions (just don't turn it on! ;)).
The battery lasts a long time... never ran out on me.
The charging stand doesn't take much space, and you can unplug the power from the stand... so if it doesn't need charging it can be unplugged and the cord can be stored.
Comes with plenty of length attachments and a brush... a travel bag to store it all in one place would have been nice.
The problem with this product is the shave/trimmer cartridge... it just does not work. If you are thinking about buying this--I would seriously suggest you reconsider and try a different model or product...
