Colleen Stan's Seven-Year Torture!
Pros:
A highly powerful story!

Colleen Stan was unfortunately the perfect victim for Cameron Hooker.
The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend parents of young teenagers to read this book so that they can inform their children the dangers of hitch-hiking.

Author's Review
Authors Christine McGuire and Augustine Norton has really done a very superb job in writing this very highly-intense story. They have spent many, many, hours interviewing Colleen Stan who was the victim. Ms. Stan has given both the authors her candid story of when she was hitch-hiking in Oregon and when Cameron Hooker pulled up in a car with his wife Janice and their two little daughters. Colleen wanted Cameron to take her to her destination, but that did not happen. Instead, he intended to kidnap her and to keep her in his home.
Colleen Stan's kidnapping ordeal lasted seven years. Most of the time, she was confined to that box, but she did get out to use the toilet and to bathe. Cameron and Janice had two little daughters, but they did a very good job in concealing that Colleen was living in a box.
A few years of living as Cameron Hooker's perfect victim, Colleen was able to move more freely outside of the box. Cameron went as far as getting her a job, but under a false name: "Kay." Colleen "Kay" worked as a maid cleaning up motel rooms. Cameron has even used "Kay" as a prostitute on the streets of Reno Nevada.
What I have found to be the most galling thing of all time is when Cameron Hooker drove Colleen home to her parents in Riverside California (that was where she was from) she had to lie to them that Cameron was her new boyfriend! None of her family members have had a single clue that Colleen was kidnapped! It was just sooo shocking!
Janice Hooker too, was the victim of her husband Cameron as well. He did not lock her in a box like he did to Colleen, but he has psychologically tortured her and has brain-washed her as he did to Colleen.
What was so awesome was when Colleen finally escaped from Cameron Hooker. I admired her for the courage she did in turning in Cameron. Not only that, but she had the courage as well as to testify in court of what this man did to her during her seven-year ordeal. Not only did Colleen testified, but Cameron's wife Janice did as well.
The most rewarding thing of all is when Colleen sued Cameron for psychological damages done to her as well as being his victim.
I really and truly enjoyed reading this story. This has kept me very focused throughout and it sad because seven years of this woman's life has been wasted and it was by a very dangerous and very twisted minded man who was lower than the lowest scum on the planet.
There are about four to five pages of photos of Colleen Stan, her kidnapper Cameron Hooker, his wife Janice, the attorneys, the authors, and a picture of the Hooker's home.
I think people should think twice about hitch-hiking. As of now, it is illegal, but there are some out there who still rely on this. What happened to Colleen Stan can happen to anyone. This woman was very lucky to escape out of this situation alive because if she hadn't, there is no question that she would have winded up dead.
I give this book a 5-star rating because of it's writing style. What I mean by that is that the authors wrote this story as if they, themselves have lived through this. It was written the way the events occurred and there was not anything that I would find sugar-coated.
This book may still be available at some book stores, but it is best to call before making a trip. You can find this book in a library if you are unable to find it in a book store.
If you plan on reading this book, enjoy.
