People Magazine: Get Your Weekly Gossip Fix!
Date of Review: Nov 12, 2000
Let me start off by admitting I am a subscriber to this magazine and I am hooked on celebrity gossip. I always have and probably always will. After a long day, I find it very relaxing to read mindless gossip such as who's dating who, who's divorcing who, who's getting married etc.
Although People Magazine is supposed to have articles about real everyday people like you and me who do extraordinary things, I have found that those articles actually take up less than 1/4 of the magazine. The majority of the magazine is celebrity related. Actually, the magazine in all reality can probably be classified as a classier tabloid magazine. If you are looking for a magazine with true life stories about every day yet extraordinary people, this may not be the magazine for you.
Each week the magazine has the following features:
The Mailbag which is where readers send in their letters to the editor, voicing their opinions or offering a comment on articles that have appeared in past issues.
Startracks is a pictorial feature of celebrity spotttings. There are 2-3 pages of photographs of celebrities going about normal day-to-day activities like grocery shopping. There is a small caption underneath each picture describing it and identifying the celebrity.
Online is s relatively new feature to the magazine. Each week one or two websites are reviewed as well as a few tips being offered on web etiquette.
Picks & Pans is a very useful feature in the magazine. This section provides reviews fo newly released movies, books, albums as well as reviews to T.V. specials for the upcoming week.
Style Watch is a mini 3-5 page fashion insert keeping the reader up to date with the latest fashion trends in Hollywood.
Then there are the articles which really are the "meat" of the magazine. They are geared mainly toward celebs, but they can range from an interview with Tom Cruise, to an article about the top 10 most eligible bachelors in Hollywood, to a couple who have adopted 10 children.
If you feel the need for your weekly fix of Hollywood gossip, People Magazine is for you.
