Author's Review
After much research, I selected the Optio 750Z over numerous other cameras because for the price, you get the most features and the best resolution. This camera is replacing another digital camera I've had for 4 years, and I really needed the higher resolution for printing larger pictures. This is a 7 megapixel camera with a 5X zoom. So far, it has worked great. It has features galore, including movie recording (30 seconds with sound, nighttime, snow/surf, 3-D, double exposure, many preset exposure settings (nature, portrait, etc.) and several flash settings (auto, no flash, etc.) There are so many, I'm sure the average user won't need half of them, but it's great that they are there. The size and weight of the camera are very good. It is very portable and will fit in a travel bag nicely (too large for a pocket) without weighing you down. It comes with a strap that can be used around the neck or doubled up for a wrist strap. The LCD screen is a decent size and can either be pulled out to view from the side, or pushed back in to the camera body facing in or out. It also has an optical viewfinder with a diopter adjustment to compensate for various eyesight needs (glasses, etc.) The camera is easy to operate and had several menus to help you customize it to your own preferences.
The user manual is very thorough and easy to understand. I had problems following it in a few places, but that was the exception, not the rule. It comes with software (ACDSee) that was a little harder for me to get used to. I'm sure I will figure it out after a couple more tries. It has the usual features such as red-eye reduction, cropping, lightening and darkening, etc. You connect the camera to your computer with a provided USB cable, which I feel is has a very "delicate" end that plugs into the camera. I hope this is a visual illusion because it's unlike anything I have seen in stores and hope it wouldn't be too hard to find a replacement. I have managed to shoot still pictures and video images with the Pentax Optio 750Z and all have transferred to the computer flawlessly. Pictures and movies are viewed through the provided software, which is supplied for both PCs and Macs.
The camera comes with a proprietary lithium ion battery and a charger. It takes several hours to charge a completely drained battery. Operation of the charger is easy. It also came with AV cables so you can hook it up to a TV for picture viewing, and a 32MB SD memory card. I recommend upgrading to a larger card if you are going to use the movie feature.
