Author's Review
I've had it for less than a week and already I am impressed. Its small size and weight is very handy for totting around in a small belt pouch(non-proprietory)around everywhere for that Kodak moment. I like its shape, no sharp edges which cut, its grip is just nice to hold without worrying you might drop it. The battery and card cover looks dubious though, I have a feeling it won't snap firmly into place after a few battery changes. A screw lock would do nicely to counter that.
I like its usage of only 2 AA batteries. It means you do not have to carry sets of 4 when on the road. 2 sets of 2 should see you through a whole day of shooting, provided you have enough memory, and you can leave another 2 sets of 2 batteries in the charger at home. And of course if the Missus or kids are using it, they can't complain about its size or weight. I Know, because my wife and kids refuse to carry my old compact film camera.
Features are good for a camera this price, though I think a sports program available for some shutter control would make it perfect. The live histogram is a feature not found in more expensive cameras, and its 2 seconds max shutter speed with its 2 or 10 sec timer helps it taking night shots. A slower shutter speed of up to 10 seconds would be ideal, but then it would be asking too much for the price, but I keep wishing for a speed of 4 or 6 seconds for some shots.
Its 3 modes of focusing and its 3 modes of light metering should cover most situations of shooting that some more expensive compact cameras can't.
There should be some kind of protection for the power and USB ports. Grit in the USB port can ruin the port when it is jacked in.Be extra careful when used on the beach or in the desert. :(
The ACDSee 5.0 program won't load into 2 of my home PCs as well as that of the Vendor, all running Windows98, quoting the "Error 1330".What gives?
And on a PC with ACDSee 5.0, it took 10 minutes to load 90 megabytes of pictures through the supplied cable through a USB 1.0 port.Downloading from the card through a card reader with copy/cut and paste is much faster through the same port.
