There Isn't Anything Cold About Coldplay!
Pros:
Deep emotional music with beautiful instruments and powerful lyrics.
Cons:
Some tracks are short. If you are expecting a band to "groove", look elsewhere.
The Bottom Line:
The reason I love Coldplay is because each of their songs come from the heart. Something that very few artist do.

Author's Review
Never before has a musical group enchanted me completely from head to toe, with my mind, body, and soul. I know that may sound corny, but Coldplay's music hits that special place me. It may be early to say, but I don't think I will ever grow tired of this CD.
Don't Panic
"We live in a beautiful world. Yeah we do, yeah we do. We live in a beautiful world." How can you argue with that?!? Not only are the lyrics, well "beautiful" the background instruments are beautiful in their own way. Probably the worse thing about this track is after 2 minutes and 17 minutes I hadn't heard enough of the chorus reminding me that we live in a beautiful world. It's over far too soon.
Shiver
Picks up the speed and gets Coldplay grooving. But Coldplay isn't just about grooving, their lyrics have deep meaning. "Now I know you don't listen to me, because you see straight through me." "Did you want me to change, well I'll change for you, and I want you to know, that you'll always get your way, and I wanted to say.....don't shiver." The best way to explain why I "feel" whenever I listen to Coldplay is their entire album is expressing emotions. Unlike many CD's I buy, there aren't a few tracks here and there that are meant to be easily played on the air--all of Coldplay's songs sound like they come from the heart. This will undoubtedly make it hard for radio stations to determine which song is "popular" to play on the air, but it makes it easier to associate what Coldplay sings about, to your own life.
Spies
This song is slower with a softer voice. With a solo guitar in the background, the singer sings, "I awake to find no piece of mind, I say how do you live, as a fugitive, down here, where I cannot see so clear." After about a 1 minute and 15 seconds, the song picks up. As to exactly what the song means--I don't know. But it's one of those songs, that no matter what it means, you will find yourself lip-synching along.
Sparks
Even slower than Spies, again with a guitar. The lead singer tells us (I play close attention on this album to the lyrics), "my heart is yours. See that I hold on to, thatÂ’s what I do. I know that I was wrong. I wont let you down. I said I, cry I, I saw sparks". Because of the tempo and feeling of this song, it makes me think of those times in my life where I just ended a friendship/relationship with a person that I felt close to, but things just didn't work out. Although there were sparks between us, the spark didn't ignite.
Yellow
This song has gotten a lot of airplay on the television station ABC. "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you, they were all yellow. I came along, wrote a song for you, and all the things you do, and it was called yellow." The color Yellow can both convey happiness and sorrow at the same time. When I hear this song, I imagine a person happy, but as the song suggests the person singing it isn't completely happy. They are a little sad, since it sounds like they are singing this song at a distance.
Trouble
A slower song that starts out with a solo piano. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. "Oh no, I see. A spiderweb has tangled up with me. I lost my head. Through the cheap things I said." These words are amplified by the instrumental that occurs between the lyrics. The intensity that is played within the instruments hasn't been heard in any other previous tracks. Trouble is forthcoming with beauty, but with a slight hesitant. This is a song that I normally put on repeat, since it just bleed with emotions.
Parachutes
A slow and short instrumental piece that sets up the next track.
High Speed
Unlike the name suggests, this song isn't "high" or on "speed". It's the perfect blend of lyrics and instruments which makes Coldplay special. I hope I'm not being overly emotional here, but it's songs like this, that allow me to take comfort in music. The lyrics surround the theme of living life within a bubble, which I know personally I've done before. This song reminds me of those times when I've been inside a bubble, trying to escape reality or those individuals that try hard to pop my bubble.
We Never Change
A slower song again with the solo guitar in the background. "I want to live life and never be cruel. I want to life and be good to you. I want to fly and never come down. And live my life and have friends around." "I wanna live, in a wooden house. I wanna live life always with you" Whenever I hear this song I think about the strong emotions I feel for my girlfriend. Personally I feel the strongest emotions come out slowly and peacefully, full of emotion. The track may suggest that "we never change", but I know I feel changed when I'm around my love one.
Everything Not Lost
The piano returns immediately starting out with vocals. The lyrics supplement We Never Change by playing off the happiness/sadness apparent in the song. Here, Everything Not Lost, reminds us that no matter what demons we may have, no matter how lost we feel, everything is not lost.
To be completely honest, the reason that I connect so closely with Coldplay is that their music seems so close to the heart. Some will say the band members are ahead of their time, because they are in their 20's, but personally since I'm a 20-something, they are right on target. I cannot listen to their CD without thinking about emotions I've had in the past, present, and hope to have in the future. This is definitely not a CD to pass up!
