Author's Review
School is back in session. Having a pencil is a must, but a good pencil is hard to find. I reccently purchased a 5 pack of Papermate mechanical pencils, which I hope will get me through the school year.
DESIGN
The colors range from 1 mostly white with pink design, 2 mostly pink with white design, 1 purple and pink with white design, and 1 mostly white with blue design. Two have the design of possible angels with wings and lines that flow around the pencil. The other three have leaves and flowers on branches, which flow gently around the pencil from eraser to finger grip. There is also a convinient reminder on the clip that reads "0.7 mm", which is the size of lead needed to refill. The clip and eraser holder is all connected, and can be pulled out of top of pencil revealing the lead reservoir. The tip is clear, making it easy to see if the lead is coming through. The top where the eraser is located, is pushed down to push lead out of the tip. It makes a soft clicking sound when lead is coming out, and no sound when pencil is empty.
COMFORT
The Papermate mechanical pencil has a finger grip that feels like hard rubber coated with a waxy substance. It allows my finger to slide easy without sticking to the side of the pencil. It is also very light in weight, allowing me to write with ease, without being real top heavy.
PRICE
I paid $2.29 for a 5 pack of papermate mechanical pencils at a local retail store. Each pencil contained 3 extra lead pieces. I bought a extra container of 0.7 mm lead peices (containing 30 pieces) for $1.59.
GRIP
The hard, waxy feeling, rubber grip is slightly wider than the pencil. It narrows as it approaches the clear tip. The grip is about 1 inch long and is the most colorful part of the pencil. The waxy feel leaves my finger feeling soft and uncallused.
DURABILITY
The light weight Papermate mechanical pencil is amazingly strong, unless it falls on the very tip. I have stepped on one and dropped one several times, which they survived. I did, however, drop one and it landed directly on the tip, breaking off a piece of plastic tip. It wouldn't propell lead out the tip after that. The eraser seems to dwindle quickly. After 10 weeks of school, I have not had to refill one pencil with lead yet, but have used up more than half the erasers.
I have been pleased with my Papermate mechanical pencil purchase. They have lasted longer than some others I have used in the past.
