As an owner of a Pentax Optio S, I was quite skeptical at first. My Fiance fell "in love" with this camera, almost immediately.
The image quality was amazing, the motion video (something I'm not interested in, but tried out anyway) looks quite good at 30fps, and of course the camera is quite the looker. We opted for the black finish (Hence the "K" at the end of my model # above.
The scene modes are easy to navigate & the booklet goes into great detail about every detail the camera has. I've been at it a couple days and am still not finished reading yet. The zoom is kind of sluggish, but works well, and I was happy to see a Leica lens system onboard.
Battery life so far has been good to us, 120 minutes to fully re-charge it, and it is lithium, so you don't go through AA's like crazy.
Digital zoom works well after the shot has been taken, and goes quite a bit farther than I'm used to. Don't use it before you take a shot though, you'll regret it!
The LCD screen is covered by a protective shield, which I like, it is resistant to fingerprints, so if you're like me & constantly wiping it off, this is good. My Pentax has an exposed LCD, which I have kept pretty clean, but it sucks to get dirt off.
Picked it up at Circuit City for $350 with 18 months no interest & a free camera kit. Would recommend an extended Service Warranty, as Panasonic only gives a 3 month labor warranty, which doesn't really cover much anyway.
