Author's Review
For the past 15 plus years, I have been a professional transcriptionist. I specialize in medical, legal, and general transcription and currently have several important clientele for which I am profoundly grateful. Because of this fact, I have to ascertain that my equipment is top of the line and working effectively for me. That means I cant afford to have machines break down or deter me, in any capacity, from completing my projects.
I have owned two Panasonic RR830s for about 4 years now and swear by them. While I have had a few problems with one of the foot pedals, it was very easily repaired and cost me a minimal fee. In addition, I have had to replace my headphones since there are four of us transcribing at any given time and we all utilize them in a different manner. Wear and tear of headphones and foot pedals are to be expected. I purchased these machines for about $230.00 at Staples and they were worth every penny. Plus, we belong to the Dividends program so we earn 1 percent back on our purchases every quarter. [yet another review]
Nevertheless, I have never had any problems with the transcriber itself. The volume control, tone quality, recording capability, and other adjustable features have enabled me to transcribe numerous quality, time lengths, and brands of standard cassette tapes. The only problems I have encountered are when a tape has not been properly recorded or the people on the tape are not articulating well. The machine itself has never failed me, to this date.
By comparison to Olympus, I find that Panasonic is far superior. [another review] I also own a Panasonic model RR930 which is basically the same machine, but handles only microcassette tapes. In my business, its vital to offer both since clients can send or bring me either size cassette tapes. After trying a few other brands, I am committed to utilizing only Panasonic transcribers, they are the best by far.
I highly recommend this transcriber for anyone serious about doing this type of business and have every intention to continue purchasing this brand. I currently own five machines, in total, and all but one is a Panasonic.
