I had an AT&T Cordless phone for a few years. I finally had to get rid of it. First, I found the batteries for the handset were a pain to replace. Secondly, the phone would die on me in the middle of a conversation. Then I would have to run to the kitchen wall phone (which Im glad I kept considering the undependability of the AT&T phone) and call the person back. I couldnt call them back on the cordless because the battery needed recharging. And although Im not one to talk hours on a phone, this disconnection would happen within an hour of answering or making a call.
I went to Radio Shack and spotted the Panasonic KX-KG1035S model. What I liked about it was it has a smaller based unit, and three handsets.
Thats when I thought of the possibilities. Keep a charged handset in different parts of the house. Each handset has its own charger and stand. No more disconnected phone calls because the battery had died and no more running to the kitchen wall phone to call the person back. The numbers on the handset are large and easy to press when making a call.
Whats nice about this unit is I can have a total of 6 handsets registered to the base unit. Three is enough for me, but if I wanted one in the basement and garage I have that option.
What comes with this unit:
AC adaptor for base unit.
Telephone line cord
Wall mounting adaptor
Batteries
Handset cover
Belt Clip
Charger
AC adaptor for charger
Setting up is a breeze. Just connect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord. And the individual chargers each with their own adaptor are connected to any electrical socket.
Battery installment again is simple. I used NI-MH AAA batteries. The manufacturer recommends using Panasonic rechargeable batteries. Charging takes seven hours and when fully charge the handset will display Charge Completed.
Operation time for the battery is (talking) up to 17 hours. Standby up to 7.5 days. It is advisable to keep the handset in a base that is plugged in as it can be left in the base without any ill effect on the batteries. I did leave one of the handsets down in the basement for a couple of weeks without the charger and when I remembered to get it, I was still able to make and receive calls.
A nice feature also is when the answering machine comes on I can hear the caller through the other two handsets. I dont have to go to where the base unit is kept. This makes it convenient in case I dont want to answer the phone. Also, each handset has Caller ID so again I can see whos calling as well.
The only shortcoming is that there is only 16 minutes of time on the answering machine. It seems to get full quickly and you need to delete them. The AT&T had a backup in that the messages stayed on even after you listened to them and had a much larger capacity for storing them.
Some special features are:
Mute button, you can hear the other party and they cant hear you.
Flash button which allows you to access special features such as Call Waiting.
Temporary tone dialing to access touch tone service.
Call Share allows the handset to join an existing outside call to a maximum of 3 parties.
Handset Phone book can store up to 50 names.
A well written instruction booklet is provided that will help you learn all the necessary features.
All in all I am pleased with how this unit operates and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cordless unit. Especially since Ive been able to stay on this phone system for several hours without getting disconnected because of a dead battery.
