Pros:
Easy to use, great playback and recording quality, good design.
Cons:
Terrible manual, many features only usable with DVD-RAM.
The Bottom Line:
It does have a few downsides and I'm not sure if I'd recomend it for someone's first recorder BUT excellent for experienced users.

First I must admit I am a Panasonic fanboy. I waited for theese to drop a bit in price before I got one though, as the original $400.00 price tag was excessive.
I've been using this for 4 months now without a single problem and have gone through over 100 DVD-r's in the process.
For playing DVD's this is great! Almost un-noticable lag when skipping to the second layer of a dual layer disk (as most movies are theese days)
Records very well and basic features are simple and easy to understand but more complex features require some trial and error.
As with all Panasonic products the manuals are useless and might as well be in Mandarin, the manual with the DMRES20D is slightly better than most but not by much.
Sadly the best features it has are only useable with a DVD-RAM not with DVD-R this is easy to fix for me as I have a DVD-RAM capable drive on my P.C. so once finished it's simple to copy and re-use the DVD-RAM. There is also a slow inital read and recording start time using a non DVD-RAM. So be prepared in advance if you are using another format!
