The Bottom Line: Beat my expectations! Excellent!
I am very impressed with the quality of this camera! I recently purchased a SonyW120 and had to take it back because I was dissatisfied with the quality of pictures . I'm so glad I did! The picture quality on the Lumix is amazing for such an inexpensive camera, it beats the Sony W120 hands down.
The body of camera is very sturdy, well made, and I like the on/off switch as well as a manual switch for opening the battery compartment. The shutter button is a good size and the 2.5 LCD has 4 settings for viewing under difficult lighting conditions. Very nice indeed! The EZ zoom button, as an alternative to the toggle switch is something you would only find on higher end cameras. I also lke the separate delete button which simplifies file management. In playback mode, you can also trim , resize and organize photos, another plus.
Aside from the physical features of the camera itself, it offers a wide array of features in record mode. You can choose from 22 preset scenery modes, under various lighting conditons, a fully automatic Intelligent mode, or a programable mode for user creativity. There is image stabilization, as well as a setting for subject movement. It also offers a higher ISO setting of 1600 that the user can override to a predetermined limit. Face detection is also an added plus, which can also be turned off it you so choose. There is a burst mode, movie with sound mode and 3 aspect ratios to choose from. Every time I pick the camera up, I find new capabilities it has to offer. I can't believe this camera was so inexpensive, $119 on sale at Sears! Wow!
All of the portrait shots I took came out with great detail and extremely natural coloring, very flattering! There is portrait, soft portrait for outdoors, night portrait, and self portrait, which allow you to take shots without setting the timer.
I can go on and on about how great this camera is, I almost feel like purchasing a second one to make sure I'll always have it in case they stop making them for any reason. This gets 5+ stars for me. I'd highly reccomend it.
