Product Review

Decent DVD Writer (with DVD-RAM)

by   taz0mania ,   Jan 5, 2004

Pros:  DVD-RAM format, reliable, fairly easy to install and use.

Cons:  Minimal compatibility with other formats, slower than current-day alternatives, pricey, especially for a used unit.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

If you do not need the DVD-RAM portion of a DVD writer, this model is WAY to pricey for simply burning 1x DVD-R's. Current DVD burning models are now less than $200 NEW, support far more formats, and (at the time of this review) burn at a lightening 4x-8x (depending on the media). All that being said, I have had virtually no problems with this drive. And one nice thing, you can always perform test burns on a DVD-RAM disc to help stop creating expensive coasters (we all have plenty from pre-buffer-underrun-protection days!). A good drive in its time, but the used models are even twice as much as the new burners out there now (which also burn CD's).
