Use the warranty to determine the life of the product.

When I originally bought the phone it functioned as well as I expected. My only complaint when I first bought the phone is that none of the current 2-line phones are as comfortable as earlier designs. Those who use a phone all day without a headset may have a better idea of what I mean. However, it developed a problem with locating the base. It also developed a problem of power cutting out on the hand unit when dialing. I bought a new battery (thinking that was the problem) but it didn't help. Panasonic only response was to state the warranty (1 year) is over. They offered to fix the phone for the same price as the phone cost new. I have owned other Panasonic office equipment and it all wears out just after the warranty.
